Hey there Ever Never Family!
SO — it’s been nearly two months since I started on the forums, but I’ve yet to write a proper introductory blog, so while we’re on holiday, I wanted to tell you a little bit about myself, and also share some news about what you can expect in the upcoming year, SGE-wise.
Starting off: Hi! My name’s Jun. I live in New York City and I’m in my early 20s. I tell you my age because though that might make me seem old to some of you, it feels like only yesterday that I was in middle school and high school, voraciously reading fantasy novels like most of you are! Here is a picture of me from when I was a wee-tot, 5 years old with dreams of being a knight in shining armor:
… and here is me now:
See, I haven’t changed at all!
As you can see, I’m a huge nerd, and SGE is one of my favorite fantasy series. I’m an Ever, but my favorite character is Hort. I’ve had my share of times where I’m in love with someone, but they don’t feel the same way about me, so I really relate to Hort’s mission to improve himself until he’s worthy of Sophie’s love. It’s so heartbreaking, because the truth is, you can’t force someone to love you, you know? But still we try.
Anyway, before I start some long boring speech about love, my favorite books besides SGE are the Harry Potter books. I’ve read through the whole series maybe 7 or 8 times. I’m a Hufflepuff and my favorite characters are Fred and George.
I’m also a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings movies. I don’t see people talking about Lord of the Rings that much on this website, but if you are a fan, let me know in the comments! They’re a little violent, so I don’t know if I can recommend everyone on the site watch them, but if you’re interested and get your parents’ permission, check these movies out, they are the best fantasy movies ever made.
(Trigger-warning: the movies are rated PG-13 for “Epic Battle Sequences & Some Scary Imagery”)
Anyway, I’m in love with fantasy movies, novels, TV shows, and anime, which just means “animation” in Japanese. I grew up in Japan, which is a country on the other-side of the world with lots of amazing food, super-fast trains, and like I mentioned, really beautiful animated films.
If you’re curious at all about Japanese culture or anime, I really recommend watching the movie Spirited Away. It’s about a ten year old girl named Chihiro who falls into a magical world filled with monsters and witches and has to try and find her way back home, much like Sophie and Agatha in Book 1 of SGE:
Sorry, I’m probably over-posting movies for you to watch, but it’s just because I’m in love with movies. It’s the reason I left Japan and moved to America to study filmmaking in college. I graduated in May of this year, after filming my final senior movie, called Knightman, about a medieval knight searching for his true love in New York City. I’ll be sure to share it with you guys when I’ve finished editing it, but for now, here’s a little teaser trailer!
Anyway, during college, I interned for a film company called Jane Startz Productions, which is one of the companies involved with making the School for Good & Evil movie. Through my job there, I was introduced to the SGE books and fell in love with Agatha and Sophie and the magical world of the Endless Woods.
From there, I got super-duper lucky and got the chance to apply to be Soman’s assistant. I was so nervous during the interview, but Soman was super-cool, believed in me, and took me on board as part of the Ever Never Family.
From there, I got to meet JoAnn and Ramon on Ever Never TV, dog-sit Douggie (who is shoooo cute!), and meet all of YOU guys on the forum.
That pretty much brings us up to the present day. It’s honestly such a joy to talk on this website with you guys, make videos with Ramon and JoAnn, and work as Soman’s assistant.
I always dreamed of being an author, and studying under Soman, I hope one day to be a good enough writer to share some of my stories with you all!
I know that’s also the dream of many of you guys on the forums, writing your own fan-fic, and RPing with friends. It seriously warms my heart that this tradition continues, because when I was your age, I did the same thing.
Anyway, I just want to say, thank you for welcoming me into your community and I hope to serve you guys well in this upcoming year. If I’m ever slow to respond, or don’t have a satisfactory answer, I sincerely apologize, and I’ll work on doing better next time!
You can follow me on Instagram for updates about Ever Never TV, the SGE movie, and my own upcoming short film, Knightman!
(Disclaimer: I also post about my band a lot. I rap in this band called Tabemono and it isn’t related to SGE, so I should caveat that my IG is not only for SGE-related stuff!)
Ok, whew, we got through it, that was A LOT all at once.
Also, Important: I have an announcement about the website coming up, and I just want to brace people a little bit. We’ve been experiencing a lot of bugs with the website and the site being cripplingly slow for many users, so our tech-team’s been trying to come up with a solution to stream-line the site while not sacrificing the wonderful things that make this site so fun.
To wrap things up, here is a picture from an upcoming episode of Ever Never TV:
The True Power Behind the Throne, Lord Douggie, circa 2018.
