My Ranking Points
Hi sorry it took so long!
Ethan’s POV: 2
I stared at the boy called Newt. The boy said something that I guessed was in English. I barely knew any English at all. Maybe he knew Eshspa? Most probably not. Then I slowly realized that the English words he said were a greeting. At least I knew ‘hi’ was a common English greeting.
“Hi,” I told him. “Ulychsa iybs isdac Ethan.”
“What did you say?” Newton asked me.
“Ulychsa iybs isdac Ethan.” I repeated.
Okay, now I know that Newton doesn’t speak a word of Eshspa.
“Wait, you said hi, what was that other stuff you said?” asked Newt.
I stared at Newt again, mostly because I couldn’t say anything more, due to me not knowing English. So I took in his appearance.
Newton had cheery gray eyes with clearly noticeable bags under his eyes probably from staying up late, tousled brown hair, and thin lips that were grinning, yet possibly showed a bit of confusion as well.
“Maybe I can write what I want to say?” I thought. “After all, you can’t write Eshspa, only speak it. I write in English.”
So I motioned for him to follow me into my dorm, and his expression clearly said that he was staying in the same room.
I quickly found a piece of parchment, and jotted down what I wanted to say to him.
“Hi, my name is Ethan. I am from the Enchanted Seas, Amber. My mother and father are from the story ‘The Flame Fish’. So obviously, I am half Mer. The ring on my finger tells you that. When I wear it and am in water, I turn into a merman. The strange language I spoke to you was my native language. I was wondering if you knew it. It is called Eshspa. Nice to meet you.”
Newt now very clearly understood me.
“Oh, so you don’t really speak English?” he wrote under my greeting.
Before I could write anything else on the parchment, I heard a soft knock on the door. Then it opened to reveal another boy. He had slightly tanned skin, similar to mine. His eyes were grayish-hazel, and his hair was golden-brown, and in a pushed-back style.
“Hello.” he said. And the rest I couldn’t understand.
But, of course, Newt understood him, and blurted out questions I couldn’t understand.
Then the new boy asked Newt something, and Newt answered the question.
The new boy walked over to me and scribbled something down. I read it slowly.
Hello, Ethan, my name is Adanis, I am from Jade. It is nice to meet you. I heard all about you from Newt just now.
“Okay,” I thought. “These boys seem nice. I hope I can learn English.”
