My Ranking Points
Today, because of the debate last week, we will be studying Harry Potter. Now, because it was mainly Bellatrix vs the Goodies talk last time, we’re going to stick with that. Since I presume you all know things about HP, there is no need for a rundown, so let’s get to it.
Challenge: Pick a stance, either with Bellatrix or against her. We’re going to have a whole class debate between the 2 sides. Ranks will be awarded to whoever can prove their point best.
I am the OG captain of team Bellatrix. @catsforlife will second this. Bellatrix forever.
I respect you and your opinions, but she is a MONSTER, SHE IS ROTTEN TO THE CORE, SHE IS A WICKED,EVIL, BLACK HOLE. And no, this is not just because she killed Sirius.
Then why are you backing her up? Is it because of her Evil? Because she’s not a Villan she’s a monster. And she’s worse than Lord Voldemort
I am standing against Bellatrix. I admit she was good at what she did, but that doesn’t make it right. In the books, killing is described as the worst possible crime, and the amount of people she killed or attempted to kill is innumerable.
I’m standing against Bellatrix. though she was extremely talented, that’s not an excuse to kill people. she went to Azkaban for a reason. she made poor choices, and she hurt many people. though she may be your “favorite character” she deserved her fate. she killed others, and that is unforgivable. it lowers her redeeming qualities, thus making her a cold-blooded villain.
Hey! I’m really busy, and I love HP and all the other things, but I simply don’t have time for this. 🙁
Could you please remove me from the tag list?
Bellatrix was absolutely horrible because she had no morale in the slightest, and most of her acts were committed out of pure craziness. She committed horrible, unspeakable acts of torture and murder throughout the series, torturing the Longbottoms last insanity and nearly to death. She killed Sirius Black with no remorse or guilt, simply because he wasn’t on her side. And even after killing/torturing people Neville and Harry deeply cared for, she taunted them, basically just pouring salt in the already deep wounds she created. She even set fire to a large family’s home (the Weasley’s), a family she knew were very wealthy, and if their house got destroyed it would take excruciatingly hard to work to build it back up. AND SHE KILLED AN INNOCENT HOUSE ELF, there is no excuse for that in the slightest. And all because of her mindset that she was superior and all others were expendable, along with her clinical insanity.
Yes I agree totally, but the Weasley’s were extremely poor, not wealthy.
I take the side against that WICKED HORRIFIC MONSTER WHO KILLED SIRIUS BLACK AND… LAUGHED ABOUT IT
@BLONDIEONFIRE Please, honestly tell me, what makes you like Bellatrix Lestrange?
I’m against Bellatrix. Even before Harry was born, she has been doing pretty evil things. She didn’t even feel sorry or regretful about her actions. She is totally creul.
I can understand her being important from a literary perspective, I’m just confused why you said she was a good character when she clearly leaned towards evil.
Alright. All of you are against her so far and I’m willing to fight all of you to the death over it. Name one major character in that series that didn’t hurt or kill anyone.
I don’t think this is a fair request – one has to look at a character’s motives for killing, and I don’t mean just for “greater good” because I recognize that that is an easy argument to poke holes into. No, I mean killed for self-defense. Consider the Second Great Wizarding War – many of the “good guys” of the series likely killed to save themselves, and if not to save themselves, to save those near to them.
Bellatrix can’t even be called a human anymore. She is a monster. True Evil respects Good as its equal. Bellatrix respected nobody. She was soulless and cruel. She killed Sirius, not just to hurt him, but to hurt those around him. Voldemort killed with a purpose, Bellatrix killed for fun. How can you side with her when she tortured the Longbottems and many innocent others into literal insanity?
I totally agree with you. Bellatrix did things for Lord Voldemort, but some things were unnecessary. Like how she killed Sirius? She didn’t need to do that. Murder innocent people who only want to protect their families? Seriously, Bellatrix has no heart. No one who is sane and a reasonable person kills people even when they have no need to do that. A sane person would do anything to NOT murder someone.
It’s almost as if Bellatrix is Fan Girling Lord Voldemort in a way, though. Worshipping him, idolizing him, everything to do with him, it’s like everything she does and wants is about him. She’s not even her own character in a way she is just a living idol to him.
Okay, Bellatrix is an Evil – no, not even Evil. She killed innocent people just for the fun of it, and whatever you may think, Evil doesn’t do that. Bellatrix murdered her own COUSIN (Sirius) for no reason other than just because he wasn’t like the rest of the family. Bellatrix also tortured Neville’s parents, turning them insane.
My conclusion? Bellatrix doesn’t deserve to have any happiness in her, because even Evil is disgusted by her (Proof: my sister – she’s Evil)!
Exactly! Quoting Lady Lesso here!- hurt with unwanted cruelty and you are a MONSTER, not a villan.
Against Beatrix’s Side! On With Blondie! Beatrix Is Such An, I Don’t Know, ‘Different’ Villain That She Shouldn’t Be A Villain. She’s Quite Irritating And Always After Voldemort. Leave Him Alone! Purely She’s A Monster, Not A Villain! Such A Hideous And Horrible Villain, Not Killing For A Purpose But Fun
(Btw, I have some KOTLC references in here, plus spoilers)
I stand against Bellatrix. True, Bellatrix was a devoted follower to Voldemort, but she loved to see others in pain and lived off of it. She had no good reason for her heartlessness and cruelty- not that I’m saying an excuse could justify her terrible actions, but Brant in KOTLC wasn’t just crazy, like Bellatrix. Brant regretted his actions (even if he didn’t admit it, but I’m only on Book 4) and lost his sanity for his (SPOILER ALERT) murder of Jolie- but nobody can say the same for Bellatrix. Up until the last moment of her life, she relished in murder.
Against! Bellatrix is vile, cruel and inhuman. She torchered Hermione and Neville’s parents, killed doby and if you rank the top ten evilest characters she would be 3rd, and sure she killed Sirius, but in the book she just cast a spell and he fell back into the vail.
As badass as she is I have to side against Bellatrix. She is unforgivably cruel and evil and continues to kill and torture people without blinking an eye. She tortures people to torture the people that loved them like Hermione and Nevil’s parents. Bellatrix finds no other solution to getting people out of her way then killing or torturing them which is a tad bit extreme. Bellatrix of course is forced into this lifestyle by being a death eater but she didn’t have to be a death eater. She made that decision on her own and even other death eaters like Lucius Malfoy didn’t go killing left to right like she did. The only reason I can find as to how she could muster up the nerve to commit such heinous acts and not feel guilty is she had nothing left to lose other than Voldemort who she of course was doing all this killing for, I still don’t think that justifies her actions at all though.
(Continued) All she did was unethical and wrong but she was also somewhat of a puppet. I don’t think she was weak per se but I think she thought she was doing all this killing for herself and it was making her a better villain when it was really just making the job easier for Voldemort. I do think it is good that there was a strong female villain but she really had no sense of independence. She relied on Voldemort for direction in life and never took her life into her own hands. Yes, there where plenty of other characters who killed someone but most of them killed with purpose and for the greater good. Like when Molly kills Bellatrix (one of my favorite parts by the way) she was doing it to protect Ginny and protect all the people Bellatrix would have killed in the future.
I’m against Bellatrix’s actions, although, as mentioned in lots of comments above, I do believe she is crucial to the story-line and Harry’s character development throughout the later books. I’m not, however, against her. She is a somewhat different villain, I’ll give her that. JK Rowling didn’t just use a villain ‘template’ for Bellatrix (male, deformed or scarred, psychopathic etc) even though she IS psychopathic, which is one of the attributes. In certain parts of dialogue, you almost pity Bellatrix, as in her actions she reveals her insecurity. As @princessgirl2911 said above, she’s not Evil. She surpasses Evil. Most villains kill for a reason, however shallow it is. But she doesn’t. Or at least it isn’t revealed why. And I think that’s quite interesting, because it’s just not really human. Why? Maybe JK Rowling wanted to give her an edge. Or maybe it was hinted very, very subtly.
I would side against Bellatrix. Even though she is a very, very talented witch, her intentions are almost always evil, and when you’re around her, there’s bound to be blood spilled. She doesn’t really see evil as an adjective, she sees it more as a game. She doesn’t care what she’ll have to do to get to a certain point, and that’s very dangerous. Bellatrix kills with no sense of direction as if she’s addicted to causing mayhem and grief for others.
They’ll be posted with this weeks lesson, as I’m still grading
Never Bellatrix. If I did do a paragraph above, I can’t find it so…
Bellatrix is a cruel heartless monster. The only loyalty she had was to the Dark Lord. She would murder and laugh and ruin lives with things worse than death. She would torture rather than a swift clean death. She was WORSE than Voldemort. She would drive you into insanity rather than just kill you like Voldemort. Bellatrix probably hopped out to town everyday and tourtre anyone who wasn’t with her for the fun of it. She was insane and obsessed with Voldemort, even having his child. She loved misery and pain, she wanted no one to have the light. She took the Weaslys home and then tried to blow them to pieces. She is a monster, she is a beast, she is sadistic.
She IS HORRIBLE, but Voldemort tortured people too. Also, as Dumbledore says (to back up your point),
“Or Bellatrix, who likes to play with her food before she eats it.”
