Chapter 1: A Crash and A Scream
The wind howls in my ears. The world around me shakes as the footsteps of the person carrying me quicken. Underneath the hood that shields her face, I see something glistening.
Suddenly, loud gun shots and explosions sound around us. I scream loudly as I’m lowered to the ground, safely hidden in the shrubs. The person hushes me and rushes to investigate. Her cloak swishes behind her as she speeds away.
All too quickly, a piercing ringing is all I can hear, and the ground swallows me up. I try to scream, but nothing comes out. Help! I’m thinking. Help me! Or at least help my poor mother…!
I tumble into never-ending darkness; falling, falling, falling.
My head hits some thing hard. Opening my eyes, I find myself in my bedroom at Aunt Clarice’s place. I’m on the floor, pillows strewn around me like they always are after a nightmare.
Or that same recurring dream.
Fastening the locket that had once been my mother’s around my neck, I drag some pillows to the huge window that no one thinks of hanging curtains on. As a result, pale moonlight streams in through it. It isn’t enough to light up my whole room, but if I sit right under it, I can read without the glaring LED lights on.
I ****** a book my shelf and flip to a dog-eared page. Sitting down on the pile of pillows, I peacefully read my book, banishing any thoughts of the dream to the very back of my mind.
I hear something happening downstairs. Panic rushes through me, mingling with the fear that resides from a nightmare. That scream, I thought. Could it be Aunt Clarice? I’ve never heard her scream before. And it can’t be Uncle Sam because he’s on a business trip. Or could it be someone else? A burglar who hurt themselves maybe? I hesitate, thinking. What am I supposed to do?
Choose either to:
1. go downstairs and investigate
2. stay in the room and await developments
Remember, it’s your choice!
Tag me! And also, option number one! I want to see who’s downstairs!
