Hi everyone! Today is our next meeting of the debate club! Today we will be debating on the SGE ship Raphie. Raphie is Sophie and Rafal, and you are going to debate your opinion: pro-Raphie or notpro-Raphie. And, no today we are going to hear your opinion, and no teams. It is just your opinion. Now, let’s start!

        In matters of pro-Raphie and no-Raphie I have to say….no Raphie. I’m going to keep Hort and all the other love interests out of this for now ;-;
        1) Rafal was a frickin stalker
        2) He kidnapped people until he found her??? The reader prophecy is the only reason he kidnapped kids for like 200 years straight. That’s like 100 kids he kidnapped (if I’m doing my math right)
        3) I don’t know if Sophie is considered a child by the time they first kissed, but it’s still a super weird age gap
        4) he wanted to kill her friends. Talk about a control freak!
If his relationship with Sophie didn’t work out he wanted her to be his son’s wife? What? I’m sorry WHAT? Basically he wanted a girl but if he didn’t succeed with her one of his sons needed to marry her.
I’d have typed more but I’m on my phone so I can’t really. Sorry for the disorganized information!

I say no raphie. While, yes, i am a fan of Raphal and Sophie’s ‘eternal love’ and how rafal loved sophie for who she was, he chose her only to combat the power of happily ever after. Its not like Rafal chose sophie because of her personality or quirks or anything like that, he only loved her because she was the one that would be his never after.

I choose no raphie even though Rafal did not judge Sophie’s evil side there were a lot of different qualities of her that he dint even know or care about. At the end both wanted each other only because rafal said that that would be their never after. The last thing he cared about was her happiness. Also like @yellowsnek said he was a complete weirdo and freak .

I am not all for Rahie, but I think Rafal is a better option for Sophie than Rhian, becuase Rafal seems at least to have a geniune affection for her

ivoryella replied 7 months, 3 weeks ago

no raphie. sure, he’s better than rhian, but there’s like at least 3 decades between them. also, that would be considered an abusive relationship if you ask me,

Pro Raphie. At least Rafal gave her freedom and enabled her to choose between him and Tedros, letting her go and learn how Good and Evil worked. And as for killing all her friends and being a control freak? Sophie wanted to kill her friends. That witch Sophie was who the true Sophie was and yet Agatha forced her to give up her true self throughout the whole series. Why does Sophie deserve friends that lie and doubt her despite how hard it is for her to try and be good? And the age gap isn’t that big of a deal. My parents are seven years apart and even though that’s not a millennia my older parent has more experience in the world and is wiser with it while my younger parent learns from that experience. Age isn’t everything. If we’re talking about control freaks, the names Japeth and Rhian will certainly come up. He obviously cared about her happiness letting her make choices on her own. And an abusive relationship? Wth? Name three times he abuses her, mentally or physically, in the book. I get what you’re trying to say but she kissed him. That’s not r*pe. It’s obviously mutual affection if not true love between the both of them.

But Sophie did not love Rafal. She would have never destroyed that ring if she did.

ivoryella replied 7 months, 3 weeks ago

not so much as abusive as manipulative. he was only using her to get what he wanted, making it seem like he was doing it for the both of them.

        sgebooklover123456 replied 7 months, 3 weeks ago

No-Raphie. Rafal was manipulative. He was using Sophie for his own purposes. He only liked her because she was evil and beautiful. Sophie was never happy with him. Not truly happy. She was always longing for someone else, whether it was Aggie, Tedros, etc. She never loved Rafal. It was only an illusion of love. Having too much power also got to Sophie’s head, and Rafal acted on that, making her more important, giving her power. Sophie loved the power, the authority, not Rafal.

        anadil777 replied 7 months, 3 weeks ago

Only liked her because she was evil and beautiful? And she never loved Rafal? Heck yeah she did! It was not “an illusion of love”. It was true love, and for y’all that are saying he was manipulative, he wasn’t. Remember the chapter Rebel Hearts? Sophie knows what Evil is supposed to do, she knows that her “friends” who frickin abandoned her have to die. She did love Rafal, if you remember their kiss after Sophie returned to him. She simply destroyed the ring because Agatha persuaded her to. Sophie was naive, because what’s going on now? Sophie’s the third wheel. Again. She did love the power, but not only it. After all, she didn’t like being Dean after the fourth book and eventually quit. According to Reena’s mom, there’s the holy trinity which is “love, purpose, food”. When Sophie was Dean she had two of those things but not love. The reason she was so happy with Rafal was because she had all three. Even Soman agrees!

          sgebooklover123456 replied 7 months, 3 weeks ago

@anadil777 Exactly, Sophie was naive, she didn’t know what true love was. It’s a common theme in many books, where the main character, doesn’t know what love truly is, and merely goes with the first love they see. I think Sophie did love him, but not the whole time. She was drawn in by how suave and handsome he was. Maybe she him loved once, maybe she didn’t. I agree that Agatha persuaded her, but Sophie could have broken the ring by herself. She didn’t see all of Rafal. She saw the part he wanted her to see. That is definitely not a good relationship. Many people are biased, because they don’t like Hort or someone else. I think there could have been a time when Raphie worked, but it wasn’t a good long-term relationship. However I do agree with most of your points. I just want Sophie to find true love, and I don’t think Rafal gives her that.
