Chapter 11: a serious discussion
Ella was quite shocked when she found out she was one of the top 3 Evers. She stalked through the halls of good towards Proffeser Dovey’s office, a few minutes later Chessire Pan and Laurence of Camelot arrived. Ella rolled her eyes in disgust at the sight of them. They all waited silently for Proffeser Dovey to come. About five minutes later Proffeser Dovey strided down the hall carrying a stack of paper. “Hold these for me *****.” Dovey plopped the pile into Chessire’s hands, Ella chuckled at the mention of Chessire’s real name while Chessire moaned and asked her not to call him that. Dovey’s reply probably wasn’t what he had hoped for. She said “You may have convinced the other teachers to call you Chessire but in case you forgot I am your dean and I will call you by your real name *****.” Ella giggled again. Goods dean opened the door and motioned for Chessire to follow, then she closed the door shut. Five minutes passed. Chessire still hadn’t come out. “So when are you gonna say sorry?” Ella jumped and turned to face Laurence. “About your eye? No way. You deserved it.” Laurence’s face went white from shock at this comment, then he said “Actually I’m pretty sure you were the one who deserved to get punched in the face. Definitely not me, the Prince of Camelot.” The way he said prince made Ella mad but she didn’t care because she had something to say that would make this prince cry. “It probably hurt so much because you’ve never been punched before, you always have your guards surrounding you, in case you didn’t know, fights are quite popular on the streets of Camelot. Very, popular. But you wouldn’t know that because your to busy counting gold and eating some of the most delicious foods in the world! Don’t know what it’s like to be bullied all day long for your ears, to have to do everything because your fathers ***** all the time, how hard it is to get a job when everyone hates you when you never did anything to them but defend yourself against their daughters and sons, you don’t know what it’s like to have your parents divorce in front of you eyes.” Ella looked away, embarrassed that she had just mentioned all this to someone that she barely knew. “I’m sorry,” Laurence’s voice was softer now “I didn’t know.” Ella was about to respond when Proffeser Dovey stepped out of her office and called Laurence in. Ten minutes passed and Laurence stepped out of Dovey’s office and it was her turn. Ella took a seat in the chair in front of Dovey’s desk, eyeing the papers Dovey had brought in twenty minutes ago. “What are those papers for?” Ella suddenly blurted out. “You will find out what those are for in a few minutes.” Dovey said. “Now, Ella, do you know what your talent is?” This question had a simple answer. “Nope.” Ella replied.
“Any idea what your talent might be?”
“Have you ever experienced something magical or unusual happen?” Ella was about to say no again when she remembered something. “Actually, yes.” Ella had been looking out the window this whole time, when she turned around to tell Dovey what the magical incident was she saw that Dovey was scribbling down notes on the papers she had brought in a few minutes back. “One day, I was in the woods hunting for some food to sell to the butcher and… The plants on the ground started pulling on my feet. The plants started making their way up my body, wrapping itself around my feet, nailing me to the ground. I tried to pull myself out of the grounds grasp but failed. The weeds started making their way up my body, around my arms and up to my face, a flower bloomed at my ear, then everything sunk back into the ground and I ran away in fear.” Ella remembered that moment. It had happened a few months ago, she hadn’t stepped into the woods since. “Did anything else happen?” Proffeser Dovey asked. “No.” Ella replied. “You may go now.” Ella bolted out of the room, thankful to have gotten out. She looked at the clock, the school day was already over so Ella headed to her dorm. The question “Did anything else happen?” still boomed inside her head. Ella had lied to her dean. Something else really had happened. Right before the plants had pulled themselves back into the ground Ella had sworn the flower had said ” Guide us Ella, be our master.” But that wasn’t the only thing that had happened. The flower had also tattooed itself behind her ear.
