My Ranking Points
Hey everyone! Sorry I haven’t been able to write in a while, but here is Chapter Fifteen about Ellie of Aiaia! I am going to switch the point of view up a little, so Ellie doesn’t get to hog all the fun being the narrator. Let me know if you want to be tagged!
@julianna910 CHAPTER FIFTEEN:
It was the candle that woke me up. I grumbled. I opened my eyes just a crack, peering out from the cocoon formed by my many blankets. It was Ariadne. What in the name of Gretel was she doing? She had a coat on, and a candle glowed in her hand, casting soft yellow light across the walls. I fidgeted, trying to look like I was still asleep. Why was she sneaking out in the middle of the night? She tiptoed out of the room, casting furtive glances behind her. The door shut with a muffled thud. I sighed. I’d have to go after her- otherwise my insatiable curiosity couldn’t rest. I put on the leather jacket and my boots. Those boots were the only thing my mother left me, and they were more valuable then gold. They were seven league boots-a treasure some would kill for. I stubbed my toe on the nightstand, cursing loudly. Had the noise woken Ellie? I peered cautiously at her bed. It was empty. It suddenly became clear why she was out late.
The only thing left to do was follow.
I scurried through the shadowy grounds, trying to mimic Yuba’s noiseless stride. He and Anemone had insisted that I have midnight lessons this week, because we would require more time as the lessons got harder and more exhausting. The magic drained me- as if it were powered by my own life force. Use too much, and I would literally burn out. For some reason, Yuba kept looking behind us, muttering to himself. He and Uma exchanged worried glances, but they said nothing. Finally we reached the secret clearing. The damp grass shimmered in the moonlight, and the air was cold and smelled of pine needles. Yuba straightened up. “Now we will move on to a higher level of wish-granting…..” I paid attention, never noticing the footsteps coming closer, closer…..
She has to be here. She has to. I repeat these words in my mind like a mantra, trying to calm my pounding heart. Ellie doesn’t know. I didn’t know, at least not until yesterday. I know she’s a witch. I know we’re fighting. But none of that matters. Not as long as she’s alive. She never knew that tonight is the full moon. Does she realize that the school has over twenty werewolves-who have formed a pack? Who are hunting tonight? I hurry through the trees. I hear twigs snapping. My breath sounds unnaturally loud in the moonlit stillness of the woods.
A long way off, a chilling howl rises from among the trees.
A chorus responds, wailing at the rising moon.
