Why do people describe school years as, for example, “Year 8?” Bruh why not just 8th grade or something?
I believe it’s because it’s not exactly a normal school. What I mean by that is that most of the people probably went to school before, so calling year 1 first grade would be kind of wierd. Like in books I hear the terms “middle school” and “freshman” and “sophomore” and I’m like huh
well middle school is 6-8th grade and freshman is 9th grade, sophomore is 10th grade. it’s honestly weird and half the time i have to check for things like freshman or sophomore because i don’t even remember them half the time.

yes that is correct, we do have preschool, pre-k, and i believe kindergarten is your year 1

but in nj it was more like k-3, then new school for 4-8, then 9-12, but the high school and middle school and elementary school grade levels were the same as in nc, they just spaced them out in schools differently. its a bit odd but whatever
