My Ranking Points
Daffodils and Debris:
I sit down at the old wooden countertop where my father would sell beverages to anyone who walked in and out of our pub in Alinburg. I rub my hand across the soft velvet that cushions the empty stool next to mine. The smell of old beers and lotus from my mother’s face cream fills the air. Ah, home sweet home. A man with cropped black hair and honey skin walks up to me, wiping the rim of a glass with a wet towel. It’s Kareem. Kareem walks up to me with a winning smile plastered on his face, he puts down the glass and empties out the contents from a small red flask into my glass. The glass immediately turns to fire and before anyone can even think about it the whole pub catches on fire. Burning cinders fall down upon other customers, burying them in piles of ashes and debris. Kareem suddenly grabs me and starts shaking me heavily, heavily, heavily…
I wake up and find Norah standing over me.
“Okay, I’ll ‘wotcher’ when you get out of bed!” She screams using air quotations around the word ”wotcher”.
“What’s the big deal? It’s Saturday anyways.” I say jokingly,
“One; it’s Thursday, get a calendar. And two; you’re going to miss breakfast if you don’t get your bum out of bed! Go get changed! Now!” Norah points at the pile of clothing that lies at the foot of my bed.
I grunt, shoo Norah and May away and, finally, get out of bed. I start to take of my fuzzy pyjama bottoms when Norah start yelling again.
“No time, Audrey! Get changed after! We have to leave now!”
“Fine, Norah, calm down.”
I manage to put on one bunny slipper before Norah literally shoves me out the room. I give May an exasperated look before grudgingly following Norah to the Dining Hall. I walk past a crowd of scoffing evergirls straight to the table where the fairies are handing out picnic baskets with our breakfast inside. I ****** the basket out of a green-haired fairy’s hands and slump towards a picnic table in the far right corner of the Dining Hall. I open the picnic basket and find myself staring at a plate of apple fritters and cheesy scrambled eggs.
“So are you actually going to eat those fritters or can I have them?” Kareem’s voice asks from behind me.
I turn around to find Kareem staring at me, the same winning smile plastered on his face. I rip the gingham tablecloth lining my picnic basket off and throw it at Kareem, not caring about the cheesy rarebit that now drips down my sky blue pyjama shirt. Kareem shakes the tablecloth off of his head while laughing.
“It’s not funny!” I scream as a cinnamon apple falls from my blond ponytail and lands on my lap.
“Look at yourself Audrey! If I looked like you, you’d be laughing too.”
“Well you don’t look like my Kareem, do you?!?!!”
“So don’t laugh!” I turn towards the rest of the gawking Dining Room, “That goes for all of you!”
Kareem grabs my shoulder and I suddenly get a deja vu from when Kareem garbs me in my dream. Is the crystal ceiling of the Dining Hall going to fall on us in burning cinders too? I look up at the ceiling, it seems fine. What’s gotten into me? Why am I so paranoid? Kareem’s voice quickly draws me out of this moment of insanity.
“Audrey, calm down. It’s okay, really.” He says all marks of laughter have disappeared from his face,
I take in a deep breath. Yeah, it’ll be fine, no signs of fire.
Kareem sits down next to me and for the first time, I don’t complain. I silently eat whatever’s left of my breakfast before a sympathetic fairy comes and picks my picnic basket off the table, I try to get up but the fairy shake his head and pushes me back down on my seat. What’s happening here? Once the fairies pick up your basket you’re usually allowed to leave. What’s going on? I give Kareem an apprehensive look but he just shrugs and continues eating his scrambled eggs. I’m about to get up to ask someone if they know what’s happening but Dean Dovey appears and I have a strong feeling she’s about to answer my questions, so I sit back down.
“So! StudentsYou might have seen the posters hung up in the hallway by our lovely committee,” Dean Dovey points at a picnic table full of evergirls who’s faces suddenly flush red, “In two days time there will be the Circus of Talents with the ten highest ranked students, you know who you are. The Circus of Talents is a talent show, obviously, where ten Evers and ten Nevers will compete for the crown, which is a great honour. If you have any questions please come to my office later today. Thank you.”
Dean Dovey suddenly disappears and I presume she’s gone back to her office. I rest my head against the table, what act am I going to do?
Thanks! Please let me know if you liked it! Also let me know if you want to be TAGGED! That would be great! Thanks for reading! Bye!
No, @greenplum-1504 ,
I haven’t had a lot of time, and I’ve gotten really into cross country, also I have writers block. I didn’t really think of a plot before I started writing. Did you for Audrey?
Aaah. Yes, the good ‘ol school x activities= no time! I actually never have any plot before writing a chapter I just make it up as I go. I kind of have a basic idea of what I want to write about but it NEVER goes to plan. Good luck! Hope that writers block goes away soon!
