My Ranking Points
HI Guys!! So, as some of you are aware, I am posting some short, add on like stories from the books… Some of them are written in the times before book 4, or in the middle, (I can’t always write doom and gloom guys..) But anyway, here is story 1:
A Hort Is Made
“Hort.” Sophie called with kindness within her tone. Enough, to send Hort running, even though he knew it was probably another job for him to do, he didn’t care, everytime she said his name, it was a chance she was finally going to see a muscular Hort, a Charming Hort, a Hort she would want to go out with. Just the thought of it made him run faster.
He stopped outside her office door and took a deep breath before opening it.
“Oh Hort I’m glad you’re here, can you get the invitation sheets out of my draw in the far left corner, they are in the top one.” Sophie said while filing her nails. Disappointment crowded his face.
“Why do you need them?” He said with cautiousness, but with a sweet voice, nevertheless, he was sure to show the acidity in his tone.
“For my upcoming Sophie’s Eve ball, for Hallow’s Eve ball. Get it? I thought it was brilliant.” She cooed. Hort didn’t move, instead he replied,
“You do know that it’s called Halloween, right?”
“That’s what we call it now,” She said extending the symbols on now. “But they used to call it Hallows Eve, and I thought you were the history teacher.” She replied, adding acidity to her voice at the end of her “Sophie’s better than everyone” sentence. Hort rolled his eyes as she went back to filing her nails and sitting cross legged in her big red chair behind her desk.
He picked up the invitations, premade, he saw. “Probably by one of her so called servants, cough students.” He thought. Hort scanned over the invitation on the top of the pile. You are hereby invited to this year’s, evil towers Halloween ball Blah, blah, blah. Hort continued on right until the bottom which was missing was Sophie’s signature, right where it should be on piece of paper. He rolled his eyes. Over the top like usual.
Hort dropped them on to her desk and started to walk out when Sophie called for him again.
“Hort,” she said with fake sweetness in her tone.
“Mhmm.” He mumbled back to her.
“You have been working so hard lately,” She said. Hort’s face lit up, “was this the moment?” He asked himself.
“How about you take a break tomorrow night. Go off, have some fun, maybe even with that Nicola girl.” She said with a little hint. But she couldn’t hide her disgust for Nicola very well.
“But that’s the night of the ball.” He explained.
“I know darling,” she said “but as long as I am changing the Never ways… I should think a little about equality among my workers. I mean, obviously, no one is as good as me, but you still work for me, like others. So you should get the same treatment as them. They get time off, you should too, if you know what I’m saying.” She said with twists in her voice. Hoping that she could persuade him.
“Sure, whatever Sophie.” He said with confirmed sarcasm. Hort turned and walked toward the door. But she slammed it using her finger glow, before he even had a chance to step out.
“Oh and Hort,” she asked. “If I do see so much of a glimpse of you at the ball, I will be sure to give a good word about you to our new Doom Room manager.” She said with acidity, making the threat real.
Hort didn’t turn to face her.
“Bye bye now, have a nice day.” She continued as if nothing had happened. Then the doors suddenly opened and he left the room to continue on with preparing for this afternoon’s lesson.
The night of the ball came around and Hort sat in his room feeling sorry for himself. He could hear the music down below and he could sense the fun activities that were happening downstairs. He wanted to join them, if Sophie could pick on any night to flirt with another guy, this night would be the best. He just angered himself even more only to find himself breathing to prevent the transformation of becoming a wolf.
He lifted up his pillow, expecting to find his frog PJ’s, but remembered that Sophie had took them away in the first year. Jeez, why was he still expecting to find them here after 3 years? He curled up into his bed only to fall asleep within minutes.
Hort woke up in the morning feel miserable, but refreshed. He couldn’t wait until he would go down stairs for Sophie to say that she wanted him to clean the whole hall up by 8am. It was now 6.45. He was right, he got downstairs and Sophie was clearly waiting impatiently in the ballroom. Tapping her foot which was inside her red slippers that matched her robe. God the hall was a mess.
“Hort, there you are, I want this room to be cleaned up by 8. The students need a clean environment to learn in.” She said with impaintentness. Hort had had enough and before he knew it, the words came out of his mouth, and as soon as he said them, he regretted them. But he also felt pleased with himself.
“I thought you believed in equality.” He said and left it at that and walked away feeling better than he had been that last couple of days….
