Noli’s Vocal Diary
[Entry #6] First of all, I want to apologize to Puck for not doing an entry for a while. Sorry not sorry! MWAHAHA! I’ve actually been super tired and stressed lately and haven’t been able to record. I’ll just give a brief run-through of the last few days.
First day, whole day was going well until something went wrong while Ren was getting her finger unlocked in Surviving Fairytales. She went all spasmy. Big blond musclehead and I had to carry her up to Dean Dovey’s office. I’ve been too worried about her to record for the last few days, but, don’t worry, I’ve avoided both Kheelan and Oren successfully.
Now back to today. I woke up after a long night filled with nightmares. Ren’s broken body lying in the moss that coated the Blue Forest’s floor haunted my dreams. Needless to say, waking up was a relief. That is, until I heard Desiree’s caterwauling as she was getting out of the shower. I stood up, my body tense, and strode to the bathroom door. I swung it open and barged in, causing Desiree to scream and wrap her towel tighter around herself.
“What are you doing, you freak!” she squealed in outrage.
I walked up to her until our faces were a few inches away. Probably not a good idea, seeing as how everyone was randomly kissing me nowadays. “If you don’t shut up, I will rip out your voice box through your ears. I don’t care if that is not physically possible. I will do it.” I glared into her eyes, making her blink and look away.
“Fine.” she muttered, “Now get out!” She shoved me out of the bathroom and locked the door. I leaned against it and sighed, my momentary rush of anger receding and leaving me depressed again. I decided to eat in the Good castle today since I already had first period there. Plus I wasn’t really in the mood to accidentally socialize with Oren or Kheelan. Definitely not in the mood. I packed up my bag and, slinging it over my shoulder, left my dorm room. I walked down the hall, sticking close to the walls so that no one would notice me. Finally, I made it to the bridge, no incidents. Then, out of nowhere, I was knocked over by a flying bundle of limbs. I went down hard, my face smashing into the dirt at the foot of the bridge. I lay there for a few seconds before the shock wore off. The weight on my back suddenly lifted and I felt a hand shaking me.
“Oi? Are you okay, mate?” Someone rolled me onto my back, and I blinked the dirt out of my eyes. Standing above me was a girl, as tall as me, with short, tangled, blond hair and twinkling brown eyes. She had a tricorne hat resting on her knotted mane at a jaunty angle, and a white blouse belted by a thick strip of leather with a gleaming gold buckle. Attached to her belt were several shiny hooks and a small brown pouch. Her black breeches were tucked into tall brown boots with onyx buckles. All in all, she was rather striking.
She helped me to my feet. “Sorry about that, mate. Wasn’t watchin’ where I was goin’. My bad.”
I shook my head and smiled at her. “Nah. It was all me. I’m always off in my own little world.”
“Then I’ve met a kindred spirit!” the girl said, laughing, “What’s your name?”
“I’m Noli. You?”
“My name is Catherine, but if you call me that I’ll have to **** your throat.” she said, removing a stiletto from her boot and flipping it in the air, catching it deftly right before it hit the ground. I blinked.
“Call me Cat.” she said, sheathing the thin blade.
I grinned. “Doesn’t look like a really have a choice, do I?”
She laughed. “I like you. You’ve got pizzazz.”
“Thank you,” I said, sweeping a playful curtsy, “So are you a student here?”
Cat snorted. “Heck no. I’m a pirate, not an academic. I only drop by here when I need some supplies from the Blue Forest. Magical vegetation, and the like. Helps when you’re fighting off enemies.”
I raised my eyebrows. “Do you have many enemies on which you need to sicc these magical vegetables?”
“Many.” Cat said, her face growing serious. She laughed suddenly, “But that doesn’t matter at the moment. Right now, all I need is a favor.” She gazed at me meaningfully.
I looked over my schedule for the day. Classes, classes, and more classes. And it was unlikely that Ren was going to be there to comfort me for any of them. “How can I help you?” I asked.
Cat sighed in relief. “Gee thanks, chum. I really need these flowers call snake gourd flowers. Small, white, lacey.”
“I know of them.” I said, nodding, “In fact, I know exactly where they are. Follow me.”
I led her to the back of the Evil castle, into the gardens.
“So,” I said as Cat stooped to harvest the delicate flowers, “Why do you need these?”
She looked up at me, brushing her short, tangled mop of hair out of her eyes. “Have you heard of Captain Hook?”
I laughed. “Obviously. Who hasn’t?”
“Anyhow, he’s my pa.” Car said, turning back to her work, “And he passed on his hatred of fairies. And, it just so happens that these little beauties…” She stood up, a bouquet of flowers clutched in her hand, “Can damage fairies pretty badly.” She grinned wickedly.
I smiled back uncomfortably. “Um, do snake gourd flowers affect pixies?”
Cat shook her head. “Nope. Only Good fairies. Why?”
“My dad is Puck, so I’m half pixie.” I said, shrugging.
She gazed at me curiously. “What’s the other half?”
“Not a clue. My mom basically ran away directly after giving birth to me, and Puck isn’t exactly forthcoming with the details.”
“I understand.” Cat said, tucking the flowers into her boot, “Don’t know who my mum is neither.”
We smiled at each other sadly.
“Anyhow,” Cat said, grinning, “I’d better be off. My crew is waiting for me. Toodles!”
I waved goodbye as she sprinted off into the maze. Well, that was interesting. In the distance, I heard the lunch bells tolling. Perfect. I must say, I have the most impeccable timing. Miss all of my classes, and then make it back in time for lunch. Well, a pat on the back to me, then.
I strolled through the maze until I reached the clearing. Strangely, all of the students, Evers and Nevers alike, were crowded into a huge pulsing mass, centered around two Never students. Teachers stood on the outskirts of the clearing, looking on in fascinated horror.
But I barely noticed. I was staring in relief at Ren. She was alright! Granted, she looked like the walking dead, but she was alright. I breathed a sigh of relief and started to make my way over to her. Then I saw Oren. He was making a beeline towards Ren, a determined expression on his face. I went pale and ducked behind a hulking Ever prince. Glancing over the prince’s shoulder, I waited until Oren had left Ren and she was standing alone before stepping out from behind the Ever. I glanced up at him, realizing it was the brunette prince from my Surviving Fairytales class. Was his name Gideon?
“Sorry about that, pal,” I said, thumping his back with my fist and smiling lightly. He grinned at me, his eyes lighting up. I stepped away slightly, nervous, “Um, thanks for the save! Bye.”
I ducked away, putting the prince behind me and making my way quickly towards Ren. As I was jogging, I saw Dean Hearts, with her facepaint as garish as ever, tottering out of the mass of students, dragging Nevaeh and Tyrius behind her by their ears. I shrugged and kept running.
As I got closer to Ren, my mellow run turned into a full on sprint. Who can blame me? I was excited to see my bestie! And then, right as I’d almost reached her, I tripped. I plowed into her, face first, knocking her onto the ground.
“Ren!” I screaming, just going with it, “I’ve missed you so much!” I leapt up and yanked her to her feet, pulling her into a tight hug, “Don’t ever go all classic fainting princess on me again! How was I meant to survive? Did you ever think of how selfish you were being?” I said, grinning slightly. I suddenly realized that I was surrounded by my fellow Never students, who were currently watching in revulsion as I strangle-hugged an Ever. I shoved Ren off of me and she stood there all sassy-like, smirking at me. She managed to pull off the snarky look very well, despite her sallow face and purple eye bags.
My brow furrowed. “Gee, you look like *******
“Gee, thanks.” she said, laughing.
I smiled back at her, but I was kind of worried. Maybe a flying tackle greeting was the best idea. Whatever. “Hey, if I wasn’t here to boost the already high self esteem of Evers, what would I do?” She laughed hollowly. “But seriously, are you okay? What happened?” I lowered my voice, “Me and Frey-”
“You and Frey?” she exclaimed, a surprised but amused expression on her face.
I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, well, I obviously couldn’t carry Fatso Ren all the way up to her prissy Good school alone, could I? Although Frey may be mostly brawn and very, very little brain, he helped. And now we’re besties.” Ren’s eyes widened, and she stared at me in shock. I smirked, “I’m kidding! But honestly, Frey seems to really care about you. He was so worried that you would be hurt.”
Ren smiled slightly and glanced over to Frey’s flock of Everboys. I followed her gaze and saw Frey, grinning hugely at Ren. I looked back at Ren, who was staring back at the blond prince, blushing slightly. I rolled my eyes as her face lit up when Frey started to walk towards us.
“Hey, you’re up.” he said softly to Ren as he reached us. She grinned, embarrassed, and looked down, her long brown hair covering her face slightly. Frey put his hand under her chin and tilted her face up. Their gazes locked.
I sighed dreamily. Only one thing to do in that sort of situations. Taking a deep breath, I made the loudest vomiting noise that I could.
They started and turned towards me, embarrassment written all over their faces. I grinned. Noli, daughter of Puck, making the world a better place, one awkward moment at a time.
“Well,” I said, starting to stroll away, “You guys can be all mushy and gross by yourselves. I’m out.” I waved goodbye.
As I walked away, I saw Kheelan making his way towards me. I sped up, trying to make it to the Tunnel of Trees before he reached me. Nope. I was too late. He gained on me. Thirty feet. Twenty feet. Ten. Five. And then, out of nowhere, my hero arrived. Gideon. His six foot tall frame completely blocked Kheelan, who was a couple inches shorter, from reaching me.
I grabbed Gideon’s arm, thankful, and pulled him after me. “Hey there, buddy! How about we take a stroll over here, ‘kay?”
Gideon nodded, smiling wordlessly. I yanked him into the Tunnel of Trees, glancing over my shoulder to make sure that Kheelan was no longer giving chase. No sight of him.
I leaned against a tree, breathing a sigh of relief. “Thanks, man. I owe you one.” I said, punching Gideon’s shoulder gratefully.
He smiled at me, leaning against the tree next to mine and sliding his hands into his pockets. “No problem. Consider it a free favor from a… Friend.” He leaned forward, grinning at me smoothly.
I moved backwards, towards the Evil castle. “Uh, yeah. Thanks. See you around.” I sprinted off, leaving a bemused Gideon behind me. Don’t get me wrong, he was cute, and he’ll probably come in useful someday, but my life was complicated enough.
The rest of the day was pretty normal. Well, that’s not true. Ren’s finger didn’t glow when Yuba unlocked it. Don’t worry, she’s fine, but, for some reason, her finger won’t glow. I honestly don’t know how else to put it, or even why it happened.
That’s all for today. Signing off, Noli, daughter of Puck. [End of Entry #6].
Hi guys! For starters, just want to do something I should have done a long time ago. Endorse @laura22! If you like my story, read hers! It’s way better than mine and is intertwined with Noli’s story, just written from Ren’s perspective. And if you don’t like my story, READ HERS ANYWAY! Like I said, it’s much better. Second of all, I’d like to thank @luna101 for letting me use Cat. It was fun! Thank you! Third of all, I want to apologize to @fairytalegirl123, @kiko55, and @cuteypie1mint for not including their characters. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about them! I just don’t want your characters to be unappreciated or the story to be rushed. Lastly, thank you ALL for being so supportive!
Awesome! And don’t worry about my characters, whenever you think they should show up. 🙂
*dances around bedroom, clapping* YOU UPDATED, YOU UPDATED! PRAISE THE HEAVEN ABOVE, YOU UPDATED!!! And it was the best, like vomiting in excitement the best (kidding). But it was the best, that’s for sure. I loved your (or Noli’s, I guess) perspective on all that drama. Noli standing up to Desiree? The best! Meeting Cat? AWESOME! And Gideon’s lil cameo? LOVED IT! Aww, thanks for all the love for both my story and Ren! But seriously, your story is just as good, if not better (probaly better). Mine gets super confusing and I’m stuck staring at it like whaaat is even happening? Lol, anyway loved the chapter (or entry) and I’m so pumped for your next update yay!
Thank you so much! Also… FEELS!!! I totally understand! It’s like you’re looking at the screen and you have no idea what you’re even typing. (Also, let’s just say that our stories are equal so we don’t get into one of those back and forth “no yours is better” “no YOURS is better” things. That’s happened to me with like ALL of my polite friends. 😉 ). P.S. PUMPED FOR YOUR NEXT CHAPTER/ENTRY TOOOOOOOO!!!
Amazing! Take your time with the characters, by the way! I loved this chapter, great take on all the action.
I’ll try to post today, @cuteypie1mint, but I had my computer taken away today, so I might have to wait until tomorrow. Sorry! I’ll make sure to hurry! (And thank you so much for the support!)
Really psyched for your next chapter. @Laura22 just posted, so I am REALLY looking forward to your side of the story! Sorry for being impatient.
It’s totally okay! I love knowing that people like my writing! Don’t worry, @laura22 is posting today, Australia time, and I’ll post maybe a couple hours after she does. We’re in different time zones, so it’s sometimes kind of hard to coordinate our stories.
