I feel like Aric is hated on too much. Like, I understand why people don’t like him coz of all the things he’s done, but here’s my argument.
People say Aric is a bad person because he blames his mother for leaving him in the woods when it’s actually the School Master’s fault, but Lady Lesso didn’t even get to say goodbye to Aric so i doubt he would even have known it was the School Master’s fault. If he was six years old and alone in the woods, never seeing his mother again, i think he would hold her accountable. He would think she abandoned him and that she didn’t love him. I think this is what made him evil in the first place, because he thinks that to stop someone from hurting you, you have to hurt them first. And I think he was even more evil when he finally found love with Japeth only to never see him again, just like with his mother.
I feel like if Aric came back in OTK and he and Japeth were together again, he wouldn’t need to be as evil.
idk i feel like im getting a bit too worked up over a book character but yeh.

I agree. I still think that Aric is a bad person but I can see his motives. He isn’t just a one-sided monster.

everimagine replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Hm. This is really interesting and well thought out, Aric would probably be a completely different person if he had a nurturing guardian figure there for the start of his life – between abandonment and the emotional hardening the Woods must’ve had on him.

Yeah. I think Aric is just sad and wants an explanation for why his mother dumped him in a cave when he was really young. I think if my mom dumped me in the woods I would be kind of mad

everimagine replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Exactly! He had virtually no direction, guidance, or support when it mattered most in his youth, so mistrust and vileness only grew deeper in him

        sophie0102 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

        Agreed
I don’t really hate Aric, honestly.
        He’s just misunderstood.
I don’t like him, but I also don’t hate him, either.
        I do ship Jaric though.

          neverafter666 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

          Jaric yessss

        raynaevil809 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

        Yep. I love Aric.

          merqueen23 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

yeah Aric and Japeth NEED TO HAPPEN!!!!!!

          raynaevil809 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

          nah….

        merqueen23 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

        Why not?

          raynaevil809 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I think theyre really close friends. Japeth calls Aric his real brother. It just doesn’t make sense..

toffee replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I get the whole Lesso leaving him make him evil theory, but it does mention in the Handbook obituaries that ‘even before his mother abandoned him in a cave in order to become the Dean of the School for Evil, Aric had no internal sense of decency and\or balance’. Also, if Good souls can’t become Evil and vice versa, then Aric’s essential soul can’t have changed.
I know it’s a different situation, but when Guinevere left Tedros and his father started drinking Tedros didn’t turn out to be a monster. It actually made him a better person overall.

          merqueen23 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

this is true, but i’m sure Tedros had other people in his life to make sure he turned out okay, and Aric did not

toffee replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Who else was there, though? Just advisors who ruined the kingdom and an empty castle. I know the situation is slightly different but to be fair, Aric did have adoptive parents who might have helped him, but then he killed them.

          raynaevil809 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

No, he tried to kill their daughter, put poisin in the well, and burned down their house. They were still alive, because it mentions the parents not taking him back

theginger replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

        Monsters are made, not born.

          raynaevil809 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

          Yeah, and Aric was made

          neverafter666 replied 7 months, 1 week ago

im really confused, my post started off with people agreeing that they also think Aric is misunderstood, and now its just people hating on him. What happened?

theginger replied 7 months, 1 week ago

Who the heck knows haha, I don’t hate him, but he had a choice to the person he wanted to become, so in a way, he made himself into a monster.

delmil replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

this has a lot of comments I felt left out

          merqueen23 replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

Left out of what? Discussing Aric and Tedros’s differences and simalarities?

princezzdot replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago

I’m sorry you feel left out, but that’s pretty ridiculous, you could’ve commented at any time. No one was saying you couldn’t join the discussion.

theginger replied 7 months, 1 week ago

I think they were joking guys

princezzdot replied 7 months, 1 week ago

Where does it show any sign of joking? Also, the user was pretty new at the time she commented so she probably didn’t understand.
