Regarding ranking points, could you reset the points every six months, so that newer students can have a chance to earn ranking points and be on the leaderboard? It’s just a suggestion . . .
I have already asked Soman but he responded and told me to ask you. Thanks!
But that wouldn’t be fair to the people on the leaderboard.
But then you have to wonder…who deserves to be on the leaderboard: the people who discovered it earlier, or the people who discovered it later on, but are on every single day?
Or maybe they should just take down the leader board and feature active members. So then people wouldn’t feel so much at competition to get to the top 20.
People only get ten points per day. In theory, people who joined earlier than others shouldn’t have too much of an advantage, right? Remember, you also get ranking points for fan art and commenting on blog posts. Julia and Agatha are the top two. They’re on every single day, just like you guys. But they also contribute awesome fan arts, and leave thoughtful comments on blog posts. They also complete every special assignment. Julia has worked hard to post to the reader gallery, making sure her contributions are well thought-out and creative. Tori and Julia deserve to be on the leaderboard because they worked incredibly hard to get there, and I don’t think it would be fair to them if their hard work was erased. Agatha303 and JuliaofOakland are two of the most active, kind, and dedicated people I know, and they deserve to be up there on the leaderboard just as much as you or I do.
Actually, yes, they kinda do. People who joined earlier do have a massive advantage, that makes it impossible for anyone to ever catch up. If someone joined in August, and someone joined in December, and both were on every day, always contributing to challenges and the RG…it’s plain to see that the one that joined in August would always, always be ahead of the December one.
Also, you seem to think that we don’t think that Tori and Julie deserve to be up there. They do. They’re obviously avid members, and they are great people. But I think sometimes, the only difference between them and other members is that they joined earlier on. Which means others never stand a chance.
You’re certainly right about their hard work. I don’t think we should scrap all their ranking points. Maybe some kind of new system that acknowledges the RP-ers that contribute the most, whilst leaving previous high-rankers with some kind of sign to show their hard work.
Or…just keep things the way they are. Personally, I’m not really that fussed what happens, but there are some people that are, and I thought it would be interesting to see things from their point of view.
Points were activated in October, so only a few months before you joined. All the old ranking points were re-set, so people who joined in August didn’t have any advantage. I know most members don’t really care about the leaderboard, but I do think that the people who are up there should keep their spots. As you said, maybe there could be other leaderboards like who posts most often to the RG or who spends the most time in the site. The tricky thing with that is that people could get mad, like people are doing now. (“I post to the RG but I’m never up there!” or “I can’t be on 24/7 because I’m at school!”)
