Chapter 9: What Some Teachers Do – Hope you like it!
Laurence staggered in a daze to Grooming, taught by a tall, slender man called Professor Lukas Alexander who was elegant to an acute point of awe. His eyes were cloudy and a silvery gray, which were sharp and keen. His head was a long mass of thick chestnut and he had a steely glint in his eye. You didn’t want to get on the wrong side of him! Laurence had to clutch the plush velvet ottoman to keep himself from drifting off and his eyelids dropped enticingly.
Well! Laurence had found himself on the Professor’s bad side already!
“Grooming,” The professor announced, “Is the key to expressing your feelings! The path to your soul! You should all be well groomed at all times. Please turn to , page 36 in ‘Princes With A Purpose.'” Laurence scrunched up his face, and tried to concentrate, but it was impossible with Aali (who cared nothing for lessons) squirming and fidgeting ardently in his seat, almost bored to tears. To make matters even worse, the explicit professor had requested him to demonstrate Princely Posture to the rest of the class. Laurence inhaled sharply as he spoke, voice dripping with honeyed sarcasm.
‘Let’s see,” He smirked. “If our Prince can show us how to use Princely Posture.” His eyes bored like razors into Laurence. “After all, he is the Prince of Camelot, is he not?” Lukas Alexander strode menacingly towards Laurence and sized him up, sneering maliciously.
“Come on then Prince! Give us a walk!” The professor piled Laurence’s books on his hazelnut curls and balanced an ornate stave carved with diamonds and rubies on top. Very gingerly, he stepped back, a smug smile plastered on his face.
“Well, Prince! Walk with perfect Princely Posture on the glass of the Valor Banister. Now!”
Even the most dopey Everboys could see as clearly as life that Professor Alexander was openly vulgar towards Laurence and was awfully irritated with him. But Laurence was most flustered.
Why was Lukas Alexander hassling him? This was the first time they had Ever met! He blinked dumbly at the Professor. Surely he couldn’t walk on the banister! He would inevitably skid, trip and make an utter fool of himself!
“Excuse me?” Laurence had heard perfectly well, but he had hoped Alexander wasn’t serious.
“That’s right Laurence!” His voice was now glazed over with syrupy scorn.
The entire room of chattering, joking Everboys went deathly quiet as Laurence stood obstinately stock-still. The professor spoke again, the sugariness gone, a hint of danger ringing. His voice was even softer now, pressurizingly smooth and terrorizing. Laurence was as still as a grave.
“Do it.” The hard edge in his voice became more prominent each second. “Or I will see to it that you are immediately failed!” Laurence had no choice, so cheeks flaming he took a tentative step forwards. He was already astonished that the rickety pile of books with the jeweled stave wobbling at the top, on his head, was secure! Yes, it was true that the stave was teetering precariously but remarkably stayed!
He could feel the eyes of his classmates and bitterness clawed at his stomach. Laurence squeezed his eyes shut and gulped, then to the shock of his classmates, he stepped onto the banister…
He opened his eyes. Why wasn’t there a bruise on his head? Why was the class gawking at him? Why was Professor Alexander looking at him…stupefied?
Laurence looked down to hide his embarrassment.
“That stave breaks and your in for it, boy!”The professor snarled. He obviously didn’t expect Laurence to accept his challenge because he was just as startled as the rest.
Laurence saw gleaming, polished glass and his own terrified reflection.
He was still on the banister! He watched his reflection turn blurry, and he lost balance and his reflection slid smoothly over and toppled onto the floor.
Laurence heard the sickening crack of the stave, the bewilderment on his classmates faces and the fearful expression on his friends faces. The wonder on Lukas Alexander’s face, then everything clouded over, and Laurence barely felt the raucous clap of his head on glass and the splintering pain caused him to pass out.
I hope you enjoyed! If anybody else wants to be in my story, please comment your bio 🙂
Thanks for reading! 🙂
Hi peppy! Great chapter! Can I use Laurence in my story? I’ve decided not to use the son of Tedros and Agatha and now that I’m using Chesire I don’t really want people to get confused about roommates.
