Princess Leonora walked quietly through the castle, her bare feet growing cold from the chilly marble floors. Moonlight streamed in through the floor to ceiling windows that spanned the hallway on the right side. Suits of armor lined the hallway a crossed from the windows, their backs against plain cobblestone wall. Leonora stepped up to one of the windows and gazed up into the starry night, realizing this would be the last time she looked out these windows and walked down these halls until she came home from school in three years.
Tears pooled in her eyes and streamed down her cheeks. She didn’t want to go! She couldn’t bare leaving her parents to go to some silly School for Good and Evil! She wanted to stay here where all her family and friends are! Leonora crumpled to the ground and curled into a ball, sobbing her heart out.
~The Next Morning
Agatha woke with a start, her skin glossed with a sheen of sweat. Images from her nightmare still danced before her eyes before finally fading away, leaving her feeling helpless and scared. Dawn light was just peaking through the clouds as the sun rose behind the mountains in the distance. Tedros snored softly beside her, completely oblivious to her worries. Agatha sighed and rolled over, trying to banish her fears as she fell back into a fitful sleep.
Leonora slowly walked down the stairs of the entrance, the carriage to take her to the School for Good and Evil waiting with the door already open for her to climb in. Her head hung lower with each step, as if she was going to prison rather then the school that everyone dreamed of going to.
This spring Leonora turned 14, and it is now the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the day when the School for Good and Evil opens its nurturing arms to a new group of 240 students: 120 Evers, and 120 Nevers. But Leonora didn’t want to be one of these lucky students, she never did. She didn’t want to have to try, and probably fail, to live up to the expectations that everyone had for her. Just because her parents are the legendary Queen Agatha and King Tedros of Camelot and her aunt is Dean Sophie, doesn’t mean she will ever grow up to be as amazing and famous as them. Leonora would rather just say in their shadows and watch from the side lines, where it’s safe and no one expects anything of her other then to be a good daughter and kind princess, something she’s done all her life, something she loves to do.
But now everything is changing, her life is turning upside down. She’s being taken away from her home, her life, the place where she belongs….
Leonora looked to her parents, who where standing next to the coach and shared the same sad smile. Leonora tried to smile back, but couldn’t find it in her heart. Tears welled in her eyes as she embraced Agatha and Tedros goodbye.
“I don’t want to leave you.” She sniffled to them.
Agatha tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “We know dear,” She said, then planted a kiss on her brow. “But it’s your duty as future Queen. I would just teach you myself, but it’s against our customs and laws.”
“We will miss you our princess, and we’ll send you letters every month. I love you Leonora.” Tedros said as he hugged her.
“I love you as well.” Said Agatha, hugging too.
“I love you both too.” Leonora whispered through tears.
When the family finally ended their embrace, Leonora climbed into to carriage and looked out the window, taking one last look at her parents and kingdom, before saying one last silent goodbye in her heart.
Don’t worry guys, it’s just a few parts that are sad 🙂 not the whole story
