THIRD PERSON POV
“Who are you?” asked Annabeth, drawing her dagger. Beside her, Percy did the same with his sword whilst Harry raised his wand. The elves readied themselves and Sophie and Agatha adopted fighting stances.
“No need to get aggressive,” said The Storyteller, with an invisible eyeroll. “I’m The Storyteller. I make sure stories go smoothly, and Albus Dumbledore has often managed to get himself as my partner.”
“Du-Dumbledore?” asked Harry, bewildered. More secrets.
“Dumbledore,” said Keefe and Percy in unison, cracking up afterwards.
“Hate to interrupt a budding bromance, but there’s SOMETHING going on,” said Annabeth sternly.
“Ah, I love you Annie,” said Percy.
“Imagine if we were like that,” Keefe said to Sophie.
Sophie flushed pink. “Keeeefe!”
The Storyteller rolled her eyes again and turned to Harry, Sophie and Agatha. (Not before muttering ‘teenagers’ under her breath).
“Look, this is a lot to process, but I have chosen you all, as famous book characters-”
“We’re book characters?” cried Annabeth, shocked. Of course.
“Awesome!” cried Keefe.
“This means our whole lives are a…lie,” said Sophie quietly.
“Does that mean I don’t actually look this good in real life?” worried Sophie. “All those cucumbers, wasted!”
“Book character, book character, book character,” mumbled Harry, as if saying to words to himself over and over again would make them false.
“LOOK!” boomed The Storyteller. Pandemonium halted. “You are perfectly real in your own universe! There is a wizarding universe-”
The Storyteller pointed to Harry.
“An elf universe.”
Sophie and Keefe.
“A demigod universe.”
Percy and Annabeth.
“And The School for Good and Evil universe.”
Sophie and Agatha.
“You see,” continued The Storyteller. “You are not fake. You are real and existing in your own universe. There are multiple. Understood?”
Apparently not. After a while lot more noise, questions and shouting, everyone calmed down.
“We need you for a quest,” said The Storyteller.
“Not another quest,” said Annabeth, annoyed.
“Silence!” shouted The Storyteller. “Enough distractions. An unknown villain is trying to take control over all the universes. It is your job to stop them. To do this, you must collect one item from each of your worlds, as well as one from a universe called the Reader world.”
“Like Gavaldon!” cried Agatha.
“No interruptions!” snapped the now annoyed Storyteller. “Here is the list.”
A few silver words began to appear in the midst of the oblivion.
-The Master Bolt
-The Elder Wand
-A Black Swan Monocle
-The Reader Prophecy Painting
-One of the Crown Jewels, England
“What?” spluttered Annabeth. “We can’t just waltz into Olympus and take the Master Bolt!”
“And I can’t just GRAB the Elder Wand!”
“How are we even meant to get to the Black Swan, or communicate with then?” Keefe asked, more out of interest that surprise.
“That’s thievery!” said Agatha, seeing that they had to get the Reader Prophecy Painting.
“You’ll learn it one day Aggie,” said Sophie, casually, with a wave of her flawless hand.
“That’s the point,” continued The Storyteller. “It’s meant to be HARD.”
And so the characters struggled to wrap their heads around this revelation in Chapter 2. They didn’t see a pair of narrowed, black eyes. Watching. Waiting.
