My Ranking Points
say what you will,
but i feel like not enough people “died” in this book.
seriously, the only “main character” deaths were merlin, japheth and guinevere. people who we all knew, in general, were probably going to die.
sure, tedros and hort died, but they both came back to life.
say what you will, but i feel like there just wasn’t enough drama when it came to the deaths of characters, etc. there were near-deaths, but still, they got out fine.
take Mockingjay for example. we all know which lovable character dies near the end. yeah, it was rlly sad, but it was necessary for the plot because it got katniss to kill one of the main villains in the story. if said person hadn’t died, then the ending would be different. the games wouldn’t have stopped .
there wasn’t anything like this in OTK, however. i’m not saying i wanted characters to die-i would’ve been absolutely crushed. i’m trying to say i was surprised not a lot of characters died, and i feel like there could’ve been more.
I like how not a lot of them died because my brother said when i told him that a main villain and character died he said that most of them would die in the last book because that’s what usually happens (I did not believe him).
To be honest, my biggest pet peeves in books are main character immunity – being the star of a story doesn’t give you death-defying abilities, so to have so many lead characters die is both statistically unlikely if sge was real and jarring for a reader as each time they escape death the stakes are lowered. I genuinely thought Agatha was going to die in this book and was almost disappointed that she didn’t? (disappointed is the wrong word, more slightly let down and confused)
