My Ranking Points
The Elemental Rebellion
I stood behind Anya and the boy, watching them flirt first tenatively, then actively, laughing and smiling at each other. It hurt, even though I knew it was just to make me jealous. And – why not admit it? – it was working. Especially because that boy was just so… overbearing. Obnoxious.
Speak of the devil. He glanced back at me, snapping, “Get on with it!” It was then that I realised l was lagging behind, subconcsiously knowing that l didn’t want to watch them together.
We were approaching the drawbridge. I suddenly shrank even further back, realising that l shouldn’t be out here. I tapped Anya on the shoulder. But it was the prince – Prince Theo, of the Air Kingdom – who turned around. “What?” he snapped.
I gestured up to the castle. “Could we… you know… I don’t know, maybe fly up there?”
He glared at me, and for a moment l thought he would hit me. But then he broke into a handsome smile. For some reason, it didn’t suit him. He didn’t seem like the person that smiled often. Maybe it was the hard lines around his mouth, or maybe it was just the fact that whenever he looked at me his mouth seemed to naturally turn downwards, but I thought he would be a harsh master – and an even harsher friend. Like my father. The thought struck me, hitting me like a rock. The fact that I didn’t really know Theo – or my father. “Why not?” he said, beckoning for Anya to take his hand.
We smiled as one as we took to the skies.
It was exhilerating, being with someone who was my equal. As we swooped through the skies, Theo matched my pace perfectly and carried Evie with seemingly no effort at all. And I had to admit, being with him felt… nice. Normal, in a way. If you could call your feelings for someone who thought you were a princess and was the heir to an entire kingdom normal.
But I had to admit it. Being with him felt nowhere near as nice as being with Evie. That sheer joy, the feeling that I could go to the moon and back – for her.
Because deep down, I knew that l would do anything for her.
And that scared me more than anything.
I hope you liked this chapter. Thank you to Queenie for the amazing character Theo, and feel free to give more character ideas. I will mostly need more Resistance people, revolution leaders – I’m thinking Coin from Mockingjay? Constuctive criticism is always welcome, like always, and please comment if you want to be tagged or untagged.
@SAPPHY ya I thought so, thanks. Can’t wait till your next chapter. You’re helping me feel better about QFG ending and giving me something else to read. Please post the next chapter soon!
