My Ranking Points
For anyone who didn’t read my last chapter, Evie got out and is now on the run.
I wake up in a darkened room, and immediately panic. Where am I? Am I in the dungeons? I look around and see someone standing in the corner of the room.
The lights suddenly switch on. The woman in the corner has dark hair and ice-blue eyes. I realise that her eyes are exactly the same colour as mine. “Good morning, Evelyn.”
How does she know my name? I feel… uneasy around her, like she has something to hide.
Lyn’s right. I am paranoid. But wouldn’t you be if you were thrown into a dungeon, then torture on the orders of your father?
He is not your father.
Of course he is.
Biologically, he is. But what kind of father would do that to you? To anyone?
Much as I hate to admit it, Lyn has a point. How can anyone do that to their own blood?
“Well?” The woman’s voice is sharp, and I know that I have been thinking for a long time.
“What?” I feel foolish and stupid, like I should have been listening and wasn’t. To be fair, that’s exactly what happened.
“Can you join us?” Us?
The Resistance, you idiot.
“Why? Why do you want me?”
She looks at me patronisingly, as it should be something that I already know. “The people of the Water kingdom worship the status quo. We need you to lead them. Just so that they believe only a small amount has changed. So they still have a monarch, a queen.”
That makes… an odd kind of sense.
Yup. Better believe it.
The words burst out of my mouth before I can stop them. “Not nopw, Lyn!”
The woman looks faintly curious, a nice change from her default expressions of “superior” and “extremely patronising”. “Who are you talking to?” she asks.
She doesn’t look satisfied, but she doesn’t push it.
“I need to know more about this before I say yes,” I continue, pushing for more. “Who are you?”
She sighs, apparently disappointed. “My name is… you don’t need to know my name. I am the leader of the Resistance.”
I push for more. “Where are we?”
She looks hesistant, like she doesn’t want to tell me. “We are in the Earth Kingdom.”
The Earth kingdom?
Ooh, interesting. I’ve always wanted to travel.
“How did I get here?”
She smirks. “We found you just outside the palace. You were near-crazy, muttering about someone called Lyn? Well, I say ‘we’ found you. It was actually one of our operatives. Anya Carpenter.”
Anya! I sit up quickly, and am hit by an agonizing pain in me leg. “Arghhh!” I scream.
“Yes. About that. When we found you, half of your left leg was… missing. Our doctors gave you a metal leg to replace it. But it may hurt at first.”
Hurt? I was in agony?
I knew that.
“So. Now I will need some information about you.” she demands.
“I haven’t even decided whether I’ll help you yet!” I protest.
She raises an eyebrow. “And will you?”
She smirks again. “What is your status?”
“Ex-princess,” I reply instantly.
Good. You’re getting the hang of it.
“What is your magic?”
“Light.” I demonstrate, taking a tiny chunk out of the chair next to my bed.
Ha. You might have to pay for that as well.
She pauses. “Interesting.”
“What is your name?”
That makes me pause. “You already know my name.” Surely it was a trick question?
She stares at me. “We like to give our full members a chance to change. To shed their identity like a snake sheds it’s skin.”
Huh. How poetic.
“So?” I look up, and realise that she is is still waiting for my answer.
Say Lyn say Lyn say Lyn say Lyn say –
She stands up. “Well. As soon as you are well enough, you will learn to fight. And to control your powers.”
“Why?” I ask. “What are we preparing for?”
She smiles, and her eyes darken. “War.”
I hope you liked this chapter! I realise that I switched tenses in the middle of my story, hopefully you still like it.
This is really good. Is Anya going to be in the next chapter? Please!
This is pretty ironic. Lyn.
Ahahaha oh well
This is a pretty cool chapter 🙂
