“So, Flower, what do we do now?” Joe asked.
I scowled. “It’s Fleur.”
“Easy, Rosie,” he said.
Lilet shoved him. “Shut up, loser!”
He blinked at her, looking hurt. “There’s no need to be rude.”
I cut in before it could get out of hand. “Lilet, stop being rude. Joe, stop being obnoxious and stupid.”
Joe nodded quickly. “So what do you suggest we do next, Tulip?” Lilet opened her mouth, but he quickly went on. “Ida, Heather and Libba have been pulled from the school, and Ava is still stuck in the house.”
I nodded. “Yes. But there is another way to get Ava out.”
“What? How?” Lilet asked.
I looked around the room that we were in. Brown walls, a few chairs, four people. Me, Lilet, Joe and… we didn’t know her name. She barely spoke.
“We need to get someone inside the house.”
Joe sighed, like he had been expecting something better. “We already tried that, Daffodil. Lyn said that there is no way Evelyn is letting anyone she doesn’t know into the house.”
Lilet’s eyes shone. “But if we can turn someone inside the house – ”
I nodded. “We can get Ava out easily.”
Joe took my hand excitedly, but I shook it off. I didn’t miss the hurt in his eyes. “Anyway,” he went on. “Do you have any idea who would be good?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know anyone in the house.”
They both shook their head as well. I was beginning to give up hope when another voice piped up. “There is a girl. Cerene.”
I snorted. “What kind of name is that?”
“Says the flowerpot,” Joe shot at me.
“How do you know?” Lilet asked the girl in the corner.
The girl shivered. “She’s my sister.” We all gasped. “I was sent away, because there could only be one of us. We weren’t meant to be twins. But the… twin bond, I guess. We could still speak to each other. And I know that she would be supportive of us.”
I stood up. “And what is your name.”
She laughed slightly. “I’m Ellen. It means ‘light’.”
