~Past the Woods Beyond~
Chapter 1: The Solid Shadow
It was the middle of the night, and Colin was still wide awake. He couldn’t afford to have those violent dreams anymore. He tried Googling what his dreams meant, but all that came up was a bunch of stupid nonsense. There was also the fact that having “Dreams about decapitation” in your search history wasn’t the greatest thing for others to find. He tossed and turned, trying to think of ways to get rid of his dreams. He didn’t want to talk about them to anyone else in case they would think he was psychopathic or something. But what if it was normal? What if his friends got them too? Colin couldn’t risk it. He just had to keep them to himself.
People Colin’s age would probably be doing something other than sleeping at this time, so Colin figured he would do that if it meant staying awake and avoiding his dreams. Gaming is what he had in mind. He got up from his bed and walked towards his monitor, not feeling tired in the slightest.
As he was about to sit in his black and red cushioned gaming chair, he felt a sudden chill down his spine. It was not merely a figurative chill, but real cold wind giving him goosebumps. He whipped his head around, and his first instinct was to check the vents. But no, that wasn’t where it was coming from. The window, which had been shut tightly before, was now opened.
“Weird, I thought I closed this,” Colin mumbled. He closed it once more, sighing and sneaking back to his chair. Suddenly, he felt another chill, and this time, he saw a shadow.
“Okay, mom. If you’re trying to scare me, Hallowe’en is months aw-” before Colin could finish his sentence, he fell backwards from his chair and felt someone tug at his sweater.
“Hey! Fine mum. I’ll get back to bed!”
But the person kept tugging, preventing Colin from crawling back into bed. It felt like an invisible force that Colin couldn’t control, or rather an invisible person. They wrapped something around Colin (was it their arm?) and pulled him towards the window. Colin decided it wasn’t his mum.
The person was perched on the windowsill, pulling up the window until it was large enough for Colin to fit through (which meant it probably wasn’t that large). They held onto Colin and looked down at the ***** streets of Brooklyn, New York. Colin felt the cold wind graze his hot and flushed face. He usually thought it was calming, but as of now, it didn’t feel calm in the slightest.
“No no no! I’ll be a good boy! Don’t throw me out, Boogeyman! Or whoever you are!”
Colin glanced up at whoever was grabbing him, and to his complete and utter shock, it was a translucent black being. It was almost like a shadow, except it could move and touch things by itself. Colin had no idea how it was possible for a see-through ghostlike creature to be able to grab him and not go right through him, but he supposed anything was possible at this point. The thing looked him right in the eye, and as it did, Colin felt a sharp stabbing pain in his head. It felt like someone was drilling a hole into his head but from the inside. The pain was so intense, Colin couldn’t even make a sound. He kicked and struggled out of the shadow’s grasp, but it was too difficult. The thing tightened its grip on Colin as he struggled and made a strange whispering noise that echoed around Colin’s head and soon after, Colin began to get sleepy. How was it possible to get sleepy in the middle of someone kidnapping you and throwing you out of a window? Colin had no idea. He tried to stay awake for a little longer as the shadow began to fly out of the window, but it took all his will. So apparently, this thing could fly too. Great. Even more proof that Colin was out of his mind. The shadow glanced back at Colin again, and this time, he felt even sleepier. As he faded into blackness, he could’ve sworn he heard the shadow whisper, “Danger is near.”
Meanwhile, Andric sat in his tree, thinking about what he had just done. Medea had warned him that only the most powerful sorcerers could bring people into different realms, but Andric was certain he could do it. After all, he was the son of Rumpelstiltskin. What couldn’t he do?
It had been a few hours since Andric had cast the spell, and he didn’t even have a sure way of knowing it worked.
“Adælan forescýwa arm bodig,” Andric had chanted.
It had drained a lot of his energy, but Andric was content, for he was quite sure the spell had worked. He had separated his shadow from his body. Since your body couldn’t travel in between realms without passing out, Andric had come up with the brilliant idea to use his shadow instead. He could give it commands, and send it out to carry them. He and his shadow were connected. They shared the same thoughts, memories and feelings. Spells like this were tiring, but easy. After all, during Andric’s time spent in Neverland, he’d been practising that spell for ages. He even performed it once on Peter Pan himself. A boy who fed a man’s hand to a crocodile, and killed boys for showing any signs of manhood deserved bad things coming to him. But this was his own shadow that he was sending out. His very own shadow travelling past the Woods Beyond…
(P.S. If you’re from New York, I’m sorry for the inaccurate portrayal. I just thought of the most common place for book characters, and New York was the first one to come to mind. I’ve only been there once, so if I get something wrong, just know that I am not from New York and I am not an expert…)

Fairy tale relative: son of Belle, from Beauty and the Beast

here is my bio. i tried and i hope you like it 🙂
Name: Lola Griffin
Nickname: Lolo (only when she’s in a good mood)
Age: 15 or 16 (doesn’t matter)
Personality: Lola is a sassy, sarcastic, and bossy at times. She likes being in charge and knowing people are on her side. Lola is very confident and pretty smart. She may be evil, but she’s not mean or anything like that. She can actually make a lot of friends
Appearance: Lola has shoulder-length black layered hair with curtain bangs. Her eyes are dark brown with small hints of yellow. She has clear, cream colored skin, and rosy cheeks with a few freckles.
Outfit: Lola likes to wear skirts, crop tops, baggy jeans, trendy shoes, and anything that is in style. She admires fashion but tends to stick to pretty basic outfits. Her favorite colors to wear are pink, black, and light purple (she says it compliments her finger glow).
Fairy tale relative: None that she knows of yet. (aka me not being able to think of one-)
Finger Glow: Light purple-ish pink, would just describe it as like a light violet.
Circus Talent: Lola’s talent is confusing people, by that meaning she can make you see thinks that aren’t actually there.
Crush (if you have one): Don’t know yet. People can ask.
Likes: When people like her, fashion, clothes, pretty colors, being in charge.
Dislikes: Unfunny people, people that don’t like her, people who try to outsmart her.
Backstory: Lola was born and grew up around Nevers and “Evil” people, knowing soon she would be evil, too. Sometimes she tried to be good. She grew up thinking that Evers were all beautiful, and Nevers were meant to be hideous and mean. This was part of the reason Lola wanted to be Good. Another part of her knew she was Evil and just accepted her fate. Once she started school as a Never, she realized being Evil wasn’t just causing trouble and being mean. She got to make friends, Good and Evil, and learn more about herself. She discovered her talent and now uses it just for fun. Although before she didn’t want to be a troublemaker, she found it fun to mess with people as a joke.
Other: Can people ask if they want Lola to be their character’s friend? I do want her to have some friends but idk who will be good.
Thanks, this is great! And I’ll be sure to give her a lot of friends.
Could Melody be Lola’s friend? It seems like they would be good friends!
