Chapter Three Part Two
Princess Etiquette and History of Heroism went by quickly, I earned high ranks in both classes. But now it was time for lunch. I was excited to see more of the nevers, I never understood why we couldn’t be friends with them. Sure some of them would become my classmates’ nemeses, but not all of them. And I surely wasn’t ever going to have my own nemesis, so why shouldn’t I make never friends? They might even be able to teach me about what they learn in the School for Evil. Though thinking about how the evers generally treat the nevers, I probably won’t tell my roommates about any never friends.
When I arrived in the clearing, I immediately noticed Heather and Katelyn chatting in the back of the line for our picnic baskets of food. I ran over to join them, I didn’t have anywhere else to go and I didn’t want to sit alone.
“Hey guys!” I said as I joined them in line.
“Hi” they both said at the same time.
“I heard you had a foggy mind in Uma’s class,” Katelyn said.
“Um, yeah, how did you know that?”
“Well, Jennifer who was in your class told Isabelle who told Megan who told Julie who told Heather who just now told me” she explained happily.
“Oh,” I didn’t get much of that, because I was too busy worrying about the fact my failure seemed to be spreading around the school like gossip. I wondered if that cute guy at the welcoming already heard the story, I certainly hope not. I snapped back into attention, reminding myself it didn’t matter what the guy thought, because I am only here to focus on learning, not boys.
“Don’t worry about it, everybody is just so nervous they bring up random stuff. We also heard you did well in your other classes!” Heather added kindly.
At that point we had reached the front of the line, so we grabbed our baskets and went to sit down near a tree. A few other girls Katelyn and Heather had made friends with during the day came to join us. The only one I recognized was Laila who I met yesterday. There was also Megan, an arabian skinned girl with brown hair, and Jenna, a very tan girl with blonde hair.
We all greeted each other pleasantly, and they immediately began talking about boys. I wasn’t surprised, but I wasn’t exactly in the mood to join in their conversation, at least they weren’t talking about the wish fish. So instead I tuned out and thought about what I read in the Animal Communication book earlier. I had mainly read about communicating with dogs, my favorite animal. I only knew how to say ‘hello’ and ‘my name is Abigail’, but I was excited nonetheless. When I got back home, I would be able to talk to our family’s farm dogs, that was an intriguing thought.
“Abby?” I heard someone ask. “Abigail?” Megan repeated.
Diverting my attention back to the girls, I responded, “Yeah? Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts.”
“No worries. We were wondering who gave you your rose,” she said sweetly as she took another bite of food.
“Oh, I don’t know his name.” I didn’t say anymore as I didn’t want to further the conversation.
But girls will be girls and Jenna asked, “What did he look like?”
Before I had a chance to respond, Katelyn said, “I’m pretty sure he looked exactly like that guy over there who is staring at Abby.” She pointed towards someone who was talking with a group of boys. He was noticeably glancing at me every few seconds. I felt my cheeks turn bright pink as I identified him as the same boy who gave me the rose. All the other girls giggled at me, and shrieked as he started walking over here.
Awesome! Super intrigued! I wonder what’s gonna happen between those two next…
Oh OK! Makes sense! Sorry but I am not really one to watch musicals that much – if you know what I mean – so… Sorry… 😅😊
