Hi guys! Sorry I haven’t posted in a while! I also realised I never described what Blade and Zane looked like! Basically, they’re both really tall, Zane has blonde hair and blue eyes, and Blade has black hair and blue eyes. Anyways, I’m going to let you read now! Hope you enjoy this chapter!

    A New Coven’s First Year
    Chapter 13-A Murder

“What’s going on?” Dovey murmured to herself as she ran after Nova. “Oh my goodness!”
“Don’t come closer,” Ebony pointed at the wall. “Or we all die.
“Go get Zane and Blade, maybe they’ll know what to do.” Dovey commanded Nova and Sophie.
The springs hissed and circled Ash, striking her every so often.
“What did you need us f-“ Zane saw Ash’s unconscious body on the floor, blood streamed all over her clothes.
“Any ideas?” Ebony catechised, not turning her focus away from Ash.
“Why aren’t you helping her?” Blade asked before following Dovey’s gaze to the wall. “Mother.” Zane sighed. “She must have had a good reason.”
“Wait, how do you even know it was her?” Nova gawked. “No one told you anything.”
“I knew she would do this. She doesn’t trust anyone. Give her time to be distracted, once she is, the springs will be in Ash’s control again.” Zane said. “Come on, let’s go. There’s nothing we can do anyways.”
“I’m not leaving.” Ebony stood up and faced Zane. “Send your mom letters, that’ll distract her.”
“I’m staying too.” Nova smiled at Ebony. “These springs could kill at any moment, we need to protect her.”
“Girls, as touching as that is, you can’t miss lessons.” Sophie cleared her throat. “You’ll go to lessons in the morning.”
“I think the girls should stay here. We’ll cancel lessons and the teachers will take turns to stay with the girls and make sure they’re all safe.” Dovey gave Sophie a firm look. “Trust me. I’ve been around here way longer than you have.”
    ***
Dovey and Sophie had stayed with the girls for an hour and had just left.
“So, what’s the plan now?” Nova yawned. “Should one of us sleep and the other stay on guard?”
“There’s no time for sleeping. Zane knows how to stop this. He knows more than he’s letting on.” Ebony stared deep into the flames of the fireplace. “How about we pay him a little visit?” Her face twisted into a smirk.
    ***
They left and hurried down the corridor until they reach Room 61. All they could hear was undoubtedly Blade’s snoring. They would have to make this quick; they wouldn’t leave Ash alone for longer than they needed to.
Nova knocked on the door. No answer.
“We don’t have time for this!” muttered Ebony as she kicked down the door.
“What on earth?” Zane’s azure eyes peered at the door.
“Who is it?” A voice called from the darkness.
“It’s only my little sister’s roommates, Carson. You can go back to sleep.”
“What do they want?” Another voice demanded.
“I don’t know, Shadow. I’ll find out.” Zane turned to Ebony and Nova, the light from the corridor falling upon his gold hair. “So, why are you here?”
A boy appeared out of the shadows. His cocoa coloured skin and dark hair intensified his bright green eyes. “Well? Get talking or get going.”
“You know how to help Ash, don’t you? Nova held a knife up to the light. “Tell us what you know.”
“Why would I do that?” Zane grunted in reply.
“If you don’t, let’s just say you’ll become a victim of my special talent. Ebony grinned. “So, what’s your choice?”
“Wait! Why don’t I just force it out of him?” Nova suggested.
“You can do that?” Ebony whined. “Why didn’t you say something earlier?”
Nova didn’t answer, she focused on getting the information from Zane, making sure not to break eye contact. Their eyes glowed red, in synch.
    “What’s going on?”
Ebony swivelled to face Shadow. “Nova’s simply in control of Zane’s soul, she’s trying to find the information that we need. Once we have it, we’ll leave.”
Shadow charged at Ebony, catching her off-guard. She punched him in the nose and twisted his arm. He fell to the floor, Ebony’s special talent was beginning to take its toll.
“Shadow? Zane? Are you guys okay?” Carson pushed off his duvet covers to see Shadow twitching on the floor. He ran towards Ebony, but his fate was the same as Shadow’s.
Ebony gazed at him on the floor, his strawberry blonde hair and ultramarine eyes; he looked like an Ever. ‘Why do so many Nevers look like Evers nowadays?’ She exhaled; that was too easy. ‘These imbeciles are going to be mogrifs.’ she thought.
Zane and Nova’s eyes stopped glowing. Zane collapsed on the floor.
“Did it work?” Ebony thoughts moved back to saving Ash. “We have no time, did it work or not?”
“It worked.” Nova smiled at Zane.
“So the next thing he says will be the key to helping Ash?”
Nova nodded. “We just have to wait.”
    ***
“So, Zane are you going to tell us your secret?”
Zane opened his eyes and saw Ebony looking at him disapprovingly. ‘What secret?’ he thought before he remembered where he was and why he was there. ‘No, I’m not going to tell you anything.’ He opened his mouth to tell them but something else came out.
“Well done, Nova! It worked!” Ebony dragged Zane out of the room, Nova following close behind.
    ***
“So, you say that you’re in control of the springs? Not Mother Gothel?”
Zane looked Nova in the eyes and smirked. “What if I am? What would you do about it?”
“I’ll show you what I’ll do about it.” Ebony lurched forwards but Nova caught her.
“Now Ebony, it would not be useful if he were dead. A bit of torture will surely teach him his lesson.” Nova winked.
“Try to hurt me and you’ll regret it.”
    They spun to face Zane.
“Don’t forget I can kill Ash at any time. I wouldn’t even think twice.”
“Why are you doing this? She’s done nothing to you. What happened in the moat was an accident.” Nova reasoned.
“Yes, it was an accident.” A voice croaked. Ash sat up in a pool of blood. “How can you be in control of the springs? Mother told me she was in control of them.”
Zane looked away. “I was also confused about that. I thought maybe you could fill me in.”
“Wait, what are you two talking about?” Ebony interjected.
Zane glared at the witches. “I’m not angry with her for almost drowning me. I’m angry because she killed my mother.
