Chapter Nine: The Ever Welcome Ball
*Continuation from last scene*
I crush the roses under my shoes while I read.
“Excuse me” I hear the boy say.
I ignore the boy and continue reading.
“I said excuse me” the boy says.
“What!” I say finally looking up.
I see a tanned boy with wavy light brown hair and matching-coloured eyes.
“You crushed my rose” he says pointing at one rose.
“I did?” I say bending down. I pick up the rose and drop it into his hands.
‘This” I say, “Is what you’ll look like if you try anything on me”
I look back to my book and continue reading.
“Can we trade seats?” I hear another boy ask. He’s not talking to me, so I’m ignoring him. Until I feel Hollie stand up and another boy sit down.
“Where’s my rose?” The boy asks.
“Your rose?” I ask not looking up, “It’s on the floor”
I know this is rude, but I’m letting them know from the start, I’m not interested. I’m becoming a queen on my own. And I’m ruling Camelot, not the kingdown they’re from.
The boy bends down and I see black hair He picks up his rose and sits back up silently.
“Okay students” I hear Pollux say.
I close my book.
“LISTEN UP YE BLASTED FOOLS” Castor explodes.
“Not so loudly” Pollux says.
“HOW ELSE WILL THEY HEAR ME?!” Castor yells.
This is going to be a long day.
The Welcoming took about two hours since Pollux and Castor kept on agruing. That kept me even longer next to those boys who threw roses in my face. As soon as the Welcoming was over, I ran out of the Theatre of Tales and back to my room.
I scratch my head. I can’t take this tiara off, but it’s really annoying. Mother and Father say I must wear it at all times. The door opens and Holly and Flora walk in.
Holly makes some bird noises at me and I look at her confused.
“Sorry” she says, “I sometimes mix up the language I speak”
I say nothing.
“What I meant to say was” Holly says, “Why aren’t you getting ready for The Ever Welcome Ball?”
“I don’t want to go” I say.
“It’s obligatory” Flora says, “You have no other option”
“Fine” I say , “I’ll go as I am”
Holly cracks up laughing, “I’m sorry, it’s just you can’t show up in your uniform”
“She’s right” Flora says, “You’ll make your first impression at this ball, and people will judge by how much effort you put into your looks”
“I don’t care about how I look” I say standing up, “My plan is to succeed in every class and graduate a Leader and rule Camelot”
“What about your prince?” Holly asks.
“Forget about him” I say, “I’m not falling in love with anyone or marrying them”
“That’s no excuse to crush two roses” Flora says.
“Look” I say, “I know how boys here think. They think we’ll follow them wherever they go, and be their followers. I want to be a ruler, not a follower. And if I kept their roses, what would they think? That I like them. And I really don’t. All the boys I’ve met are full of themselves, not a single one caring. If I like a boy, that will end my dreams of becoming a ruler. I don’t even know their names! I’m not going to do something I don’t want to do. Clear?”
Holly and Flora gape at me. I think I said too much.
“I’ll go to this ball” I say, “But I’m leaving ten minutes into the ball”
I turn around and march up the stairs.
“Hogwash” I mumble, “It’s all hogwash”
I pull up my dress cringing.
“My tiara is enough” I tell Flora, “You didn’t need to give me a strapless dress”
“You look amazing” Holly says, “Just try to keep your arms still”
“So you want me to become a stick?” I ask.
“It’s not funny” I say, “How does Mother pull this off?”
“Ssshhh!” Flora says, “We’re almost there”
I groan and walk faster towards the ballroom.
“Slow down!” Holly yells, “You’re making yourself look less princessesy”
“That’s not a word” I say, “And I’d be running if it weren’t for these shoes”
I speed up into the ballroom and stop dead. A huge banner reading, “The Ever Welcome Ball” is hung in the centre of the room painted with dozens of colours. The ceiling is full of skylights lighting up the dim ballrooom. There are tables packed with drinks, food and refreshments. In the centre of the ballroom, fancy, poofed-up Evers waltz with each other across the floor.
Holly and Flora catch up and stand behind me.
“There’s Ivan!” Holly exclaims pointing at an arabian-skinned prince.
“And Jacob” Flora breathes pointing at a red-haired muscular prince. They run up to them and they waltz at the centre. B.arf. They can waltz as much as they like, I’m going back to my room. I can’t believe I wore a strapless dress.
“Celeste!” I hear a familiar voice call.
I turn around to see the brown-haired boy from the Welcoming heading towards me. I start backing away slowly, did he not get the message? And how does he know my name?
“Celeste!” I hear another voice call.
I turn around to see the black-haired boy from the Welcoming coming at me from the other way. I’m trapped in the middle. Or am I? I turn around to see a door a few feet away from me. I scurry towards it trying not to fall on my shoes. I push open the door to see a dark corridor. It’s either this, or the boys.
The corridor. I run into the dark corridor feeling the boys behind me. My shoes slow me down and I nearly fall. I throw my shoes off and proceed into the dark corridor with the boys running after me. Seriously, why are they chasing me?
“Go away!” I yell turning around, still running.
“Why?” one of them asks (Too dark to see)
I feel myself tumbling down hard marble steps. A staircase. I shriek and scream but I won’t start tumbling. My head hits the railing and the marble multiple times and I feel myself slowly losing consciousness. I see blood streaming down my head and I slowly close my eyes, still tumbling.
Wow……….. Celeste is kind of intense, but totally relatable too

Well, @never11ever8, I write my stories on samsung notes. When I started my stories I had about two or three tags I could simply type. Then when I had more tags, I would just copy tags from the previous chapter and paste them to the new chapter. Then I would add people who wanted to be tagged who weren’t there before. So basically I just copy and paste. That way I don’t have to type the entire list. Now that I think about it, I might be cheating 😐
