Diana’s first instinct was to grab Gabe before anyone else could get to him. Then she immediately cringed. When had she become so clingy? If she followed Gabe around like a lovesick puppy the entire ride then a) Gabe would lose interest in her and b) everyone else would lose respect for her. Over her dead body were either of those happening.
So instead she grabbed Maesie’s hand and confidently marched over to where Odette was standing. Her two closest allies. Her confidence wavered, however, when she saw Astrid approach Odette as well. She swallowed hard. She had almost forgotten the two were close friends. While her and Astrid had no bad blood between them she still felt slightly uncomfortable around her. She made Diana feel as though she had to be tougher, harder, colder, to meet her standards.
Diana sniffed and drew in her shoulders. She would just have to get over those feelings. There was no time for self-doubt now.
She nodded coolly at the two girls as Maesie greeted them. “Hey Odette. Astrid.”
Odette smiled. Astrid remained motionless but Diana thought she perceived a soft, barely audible, sigh. An awkward silence ensued. Diana coughed slightly. “I guess this is our four then.” Obviously. She rolled her eyes at herself internally. “I suppose now we just wait to see who’s cabin we get.”
