    Hello Poet Gang 😊!
Happy first day of Summer everyone, the heat has just begun.
We were so happy with the responses to our first meeting, and we’re hoping to continue the fun, challenges, and writing. We also want to continue to grow our poet family, so keep spreading the word!
    Monthly Theme: ⚖️Justice⚖️
With everything that’s going on in our world right now, justice seems like the perfect word for our theme this month. Write a poem based on anything surrounding the injustices in our modern world and post it below and on the doc!
    Special Announcements:
None for this week, but thank you to everyone who participated in Pride Week! We hope you have a great rest of the Pride Month! All announcements will be updated on the doc, as always.
    Activities and Events:
☀As with every month, write a poem based off of the theme!
☀Start or continue working on your poem slideshows, and make sure to hyperlink them on the doc!
☀We challenge you to break out of your bubble and stay informed about what’s going on in our world. Yes, it might be upsetting, but it is NECESSARY.
☀Tell us your birthdays down below!
Announcing the Poet of the Month!
We are excited to announce our very first Poet of the Month!! This user has been very active all month and has written many beautiful poems. *drumroll*
We would like to offer you the option of either creating an activity for next month, or writing next month’s closing remarks. Let us know if you’d be interested! We’re so proud of you!!
    Temperature poll:
    ☀How is everyone holding up?
    ☀Any Summer plans or wishes?
    ☀What is your greatest fear?
☀What has been your least favorite part of the pandemic?
    ☀ Anything interesting to share?
    Closing Remarks:
☀For this meeting, there’s a song we’d like to share. If you’re able, please take a moment of silence, a knee, and raise your hand to the sky for George Floyd and all of our POC who have been subjected to police brutality and/or de.ath by unjust forces.
☀We also wanted to let you know that Amazon Prime Video and Netflix both have great documentaries and shows about POC and their history in America. A couple great ones to watch are called The 13th (mass incarceration), and I Am Not Your Neg** (James Baldwin). These are graphic, so be prepared if you do watch them. We also recommend Just Mercy and Harriet.

Tell us your thoughts below, and remember, this is a safe space.
    We’ll see you next month!

        Oof I’m early yay!
I’m doing good. Trying to get over the fact that I’ll be starting high school this fall. 😬 If any of yall got any advice for that I’m all ears.
For the summer, I’m hoping to get started on that novel I was talking about last meeting as I am still in the outlining and planning stage and just to do more soccer stuff in general. And to finish SGE by the time school starts (no I have not read OTK yet so please no spoilers!)
Oooh my greatest fear I would have to say is people. Let me explain that more… people staring at me. Basically being the center of attention. I get panick attacks and it just goes really badly. That’s probably the main reason why I write I’m better with words than my voice.
My least favorite part of the pandemic is not being able to see my friends and how it cancelled everything. I’ve been the most bored in my entire life these last couple of months.
Soccer is finally coming back, thank God. I’ve finally got something to do now which is amazing.
So my birthday (almost forget this one lol) is Halloween!

Oooo you have an awesome birthday!!
My GAD has a social anxiety aspect too, so I totally get where you’re coming from. One of my worst fears is also being looked at, being the center of attention, etc.
I can’t wait to read your book whenever you are ready to share some of it!
As for high-school, I can empathize with your nervousness. I’ll be in 11th grade next year, but I remember my freshman year quite vividly. One thing I would recommend is to have a good relationship with your teachers. I know some kids don’t care, but from my experience, they are much MORE likely to accommodate and help you during the year if they LIKE you. I didn’t have a 504 or a diagnosis of GAD during 9th grade, but because I had a good relationship with my teachers, they accommodated for me anyway. Getting extended time on assignments is much easier when your teachers like you, and so is making up work that you miss when you’re out. I also recommend finding a healthy way to relieve your stress before you start school because you’ll need it. Sports help, reading helps, but have something else just in case. Try to do your work on time as well, and do your homework. Sometimes teachers are willing to bump your grade a few points at the end of a quarter if you do your work. Make sure you have a safety network set up with friends, trusted adults, and/or family members. As someone with anxiety, this is crucial to having the best experience possible at school. You should also plan the fastest way to move from class to class, so you don’t spend more time than you need to in the crowded hallways.
I hope this helps in some way!!

Thank you so much Ginge! This is really helpful advice, and yes I will definitely let you read some of my book when I actually have some of it finished lol!

I’ve been holding up decently well. Lots of ups and downs, but hey. I’m here, so I’m happy. That’s all I really want.
My family is going camping twice, I have three online summer camps lined up, and my family and I are going to a smaller beach town for a few days in July.
Greatest fear? Being hurt by someone I love, especially a friend.
The lack of alone time! I need to be alone, I really dislike being with people- even my family- 24/7. I’ve been finding ways to be alone… but it’s just not the same.
Birthday is the last day of May- the 31st.

leilamofwoodsbeyond replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Sometimes being here is the best we can do, I know how you feel.
Ooh those all sound really fun! What summer camps are they, if you don’t mind me asking?
I definitely understand that fear- especially if it happens once, then can you have a hard time completely trusting other people…
Ah, I definitely feel that- it’s hard for me as well to be surrounded by people nearly every moment of every day!

A writing one and two science ones.

Ahhhh that’s great ginge! I have just the poem. Congratulations Effie!
I hope you’ve been good! I have basically no more work for the summer so I’m just chilling. My birthday is September 10th.
        ☀How is everyone holding up?
Not great, but I’m doing my best
        ☀Any Summer plans or wishes?
I want to have an amazing sleepover picnic thing with my friends
        ☀What is your greatest fear?
It’s probably either failure or that all my friends hate me
☀What has been your least favorite part of the pandemic?
Not being able to see my friends
        ☀ Anything interesting to share?
        My life is boring XD

shadesofevil replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Congrats to @EFFIE! Yes, Justice is a perfect theme for this month, everyone remain aware!

leilamofwoodsbeyond replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Ooh, it’s always nice to just be able to relax for the summer!
*huggles* I’m always here if you want to talk about anything- that goes for everyone.
A picnic with friends sounds super fun!!
Those are two really understandable fears- failure is really painful for a lot of people I know, and it’s pretty easy to worry that your friends aren’t actually you’re friends…
XD Fair enough, and I know life is made especially boring by having to stay home to stay safe.

effie replied 1 month, 3 weeks ago

Oh wow thank you! Now I feel bad for commenting so late.
Justice is a great theme. Um . . . I might try and think of something. Maybe maybe not.
Welcome new members! We’re glad to have you!
My birthday is May 20. I have not been working on my slideshow. Better do that.
Um. I don’t think I could think of any activities. I’ll do the closing remarks, I guess.
        ☀How is everyone holding up?
I’m doing fine. Mostly because my library’s doing drive-through.
        ☀Any Summer plans or wishes?
Not really. We’ll be visiting our grandparents a lot. (With some time between visits to make sure we don’t get sick.)
        ☀What is your greatest fear?
        I don’t know.
☀What has been your least favorite part of the pandemic?
People are dying. A whole lot of people are dying. And so many people don’t take this seriously. It frustrates me.
        ☀ Anything interesting to share?
We got guinea pigs today and they’re so adorable!!!!!!
The video’s blocked on my school computer, which is what I use for this. So . . . yeah. As for the movies, I have limited screen time and I don’t know if my parents would allow me to watch them. I’m pretty up to date on current events, though.
Again, thank you so much! I still can’t believe I got that award-thingamabob.

leilamofwoodsbeyond replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago

It’s great that your library is doing drive-through! Mine’s doing curbside pickup, so that definitely makes life a lot less boring.
I know… It really bugs me when I see people out in public without masks, not social distancing at all, just disregarding all guidelines… *sigh*
Awww, guinea pigs are always so cute!!!
          You definitely deserved it 🙂

Hello, I’m good! Summer is my favourite season so there’s a few things I want to do! I’m planning to have a water fight with a couple of friends and a barbecue once lockdown is over! What about you? I don’t have a greatest fear, there’s just things I’m scared like the dark (I don’t know why) and spiders. My least favourite part of the pandemic has been not seeing my friends but it has meant I can come on here more often! Yay! Congratulations, Effie! My birthday is on the 24th April! I can’t wait to read more poems! Eloise

leilamofwoodsbeyond replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago

Ooh, those both sound really cool!! Personally I’m thinking a picnic kind of thing with a few friends (socially distanced) would be one of the things on my to do list for this summer. Ah, that makes sense.
It’s been nice talking to you more recently, although it really does suck not being able to see irl friends, I know that’s one of my least favorite parts of the pandemic.
