SOMAN’S BLOG: Presenting “RED SCHOOL”! Plus Secret Book 2021, SGE Movie, and More!

1st October 2020

Hey Evs and Nevs,

And here you thought everything was over! ONE TRUE KING was done. The series at an end. Soman in his grave, never to yield anything ever again… move on to Minecraft and the new Shawn Mendes album and other things…

But no. That’s not how things roll here in the Ever Never, and we just dropped a big bombshell yesterday…

Presenting RED SCHOOL!

Victoria Aveyard (author of RED QUEEN) and I have long dreamed of creating something that rarely exists  — a true crossover, where worlds meet and you get two amazing fantasy universes in one. With RED QUEEN one of the most popular YA series in history and the SCHOOL FOR GOOD & EVIL a middle-grade mainstay — and both series “done” — it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something unique and non-canon and celebrate two franchises with the loyal, devoted fans.

So with the help of our resident Jun, a story was cooked up bringing the two worlds together and RED SCHOOL was born: a two-part graphic novel, each issue about 50 pages of glorious full-color, illustrated by Joel Gennari. The first issue comes out October 27 and Part 2 will come out sometime in December.

You can either order a free digital download, or signed collectible copy of the graphic book, or if you’re feeling extra luxurious, you can order the collectible copy, plus get a zoom with me and Victoria.

To get your copy of RED SCHOOL, visit But move quick because supplies are limited and this will be available for only a short time.

To answer your questions — no, you don’t have to have read RED QUEEN to enjoy it, but you will appreciate it more if you’ve read at least Book 1 of both series… no, it’s definitely not canon, meaning it’s outside the timeline of the books… it’s purely a celebration of two series and a thank you to all the fans that have supported us… but it’s also a fantastic story in its own right and quite intense and amazing and filled with easter eggs… You’ll see.

The response has been INSANE so far. We basically broke the internet with demand for it, the server crashing within 10 minutes of us making RED SCHOOL available, but things are back online, so get ordering!

Meanwhile… I’ve been secretly working on an all new fairy tale book of my own! AHHHHH. I started it the week after coronavirus locked the world down, because there was nothing else to do, and I had a killer idea… and just finished it today and sent if off to the copyeditors. It comes out in 2021 and it’s truly a book I’m proud of. I love every word and I hope you will too. My secret, dangerous, quarantine book. Here’s a sneak peek:

You’ll learn more about the book in the months to come, the title, the cover (insanely cool), the trailer and more. So stay tuned here and to my Instagram and our Youtube channel at

Meanwhile, there are more things afoot, including the School for Good and Evil MOVIE, directed by Paul Feig, which we announced a few months back! They are hard at work in preproduction, hoping to shoot sometime next year. You’ll hear a lot more about the status of production and everything about the movie in a new EVERNEVER TV episode, coming next week, that has all the information on casting, the script, and more. So stay tuned for that.

That’s a lot going on, right?! So many big things to look forward to. As for me, I’m finally taking a little time off — meaning a few days — before I dive into my next project. It’s been a memorable summer, despite all the sadness of the pandemic. I’m back in NYC now, where things are holding up somehow for now. It’s been a lot of walks in the parks with friends, tennis, working out, and dining outside. But the weather is slowly cooling down, so not sure what will happen from here.

Lots of uncertainty in 2020, especially with the election coming up. But in the meantime, we will keep writing, reading, dreaming, because that’s all we have in our control.

Thanks for being amazing readers and can’t wait to share with you what’s ahead!

  1. It came out today!!! Super excited to read it. I just finished Red Queen and it was really good too, would highly recommend. The books get better as they go on, so even if your not sure about it at first, keep going.

  2. WOAH. I haven't been on here for a while now, but this makes being in quarantine more fun! I'd love to read this book, especially after seeing that cover. AMAZING (I know it's wrong to judge a book by its cover, but who could resist looking into that after seeing the art at the front?)

  3. WHAT HOW LATE WAS I??? This is amazing!! Can't wait for "Secret Book 2021" to come out!! Thanks Soman and Victoria!!

  4. omg omg omg cant wait ;)

  6. Has anyone read Red Queen? Is it worth the read?

    • It doesnt come out till the 27th, but i am SO EXCITED. I Thought SGE was OVER FOREVER Yay!

    • Red Queen is an absolutely incredible series. I finished the books as they came out and I would say they are definitely worth reading. The first book and the last two books are great, but something to be cautious of is that the second book is very slow paced, which makes it difficult to finish. But overall I would say it is definitely worth giving a try. It is one of the top series on my list! Hope you give it a try :)

    • yes, absolutely yes. I would say its a close second to SGE

  7. If you guys haven’t read Red Queen I would highly recommend it. It is a great series! The only thing to be aware of is that Glass Sword has a much slower pace than the other three, but in the end reading all four books is definitely worth it. Mare and Cal are both very interesting characters and I can’t wait to see how they interact with Agatha and Tedros!

    • I agree. King’s Cage is the best, and War Storm is the second best. So even if you hate the first two, stick with it!

    • Ok!

  8. OHHHHHHH that's amazing! It was interesting how you started the post

I didn't even know Victoria Aveyard and Soman are friends...

  9. I can't wait to read the Red school and I'm so excited for the SGE Movie

  10. I know the school for good and evil characters. but I have not read red queen yet, but I will try to get one because i'm bored. so might someone point out the characters from the cover, and those who read red queen I want a introduction to the first book, and tell me why it's an amazing book, and it that hort next to sophie? because he had a blue finger glow but i'm not sure yet on the characters.

    • I haven't read Red Queen, but that probably isn't Hort because there is fire in his hand, not a finger glow.

    • I don't think its Hort and it's probably based in the middle of the series not at the end so Hort and Sophie are probably not even dating yet?

    • I think the three characters on the right are Sophie, Tedros, and Agatha and then the three on the left are from Red Queen

    • It’s a character from Red Queen called Maven.
