4th July 2019
Hey Evs and Nevs,
Whoo, feels weird writing this blog, as it’s been more than 4 months since I wrote one! I’m at JFK airport, on the way to Austin, Texas for the 4th of July holiday, where I’m going to meet up with Uma and Kaveen, the famous Twinanis, who are now 11 years old. Both Uma and Kaveen are in Book 6, so I need a little in-person inspiration 🙂
The last few months just have been super busy, so I haven’t had much time to be on the website, but having a little time at the airport gives me just the moment I need to check in. What have I been busy with? Well, once Book 5 came out, I had to go on an insanely long tour — 18 cities, nearly 100+ events, and it lasted almost nonstop until the end of May. At the same time, I was pretty burnt out — from writing Book 5, from touring, and from just going nonstop for so long, that I wanted to take some time offline to just get my life back in balance. It was a lot of Crossfit, hanging out with friends, bad dates (told you I’m the real life Sophie), and having adventures. I’ve been writing, of course; that never stops. But the pace was just a little less intense than usual. But starting next week, I’ll be back to my writing hole, where I’ll go full steam for the next 6 months or so to hopefully finish Book 6.
At present, I have about 16 chapters, so nearly half the book, but still revising that first half, and a long way to go. I don’t feel like the end is anywhere in sight, yet, so it’s still very early for me. That said, it is an intense, wild book — even more than Book 5, and it will certainly feel like the grand finale.
Before I tell you more about Book 6, I’ll catch you up on some fun adventures I’ve had the last few months. I got super into flying trapezing…
I hung out with my BFF Victoria Aveyard (author of RED QUEEN) at a fun pizza place that had fingers on the walls (no joke) —
Then I had some pool time in Austin…
Published a big story in the New York Times (you can read it online; an original short story about my grandmother)…
And last but not least, was a teacher at Ally Condie’s WRITE OUT camp in Utah, where I taught teenagers for 4 days and took them hiking in Utah. If you aspire to be a writer, WRITE OUT is the single best camp in the world for it every summer in Cedar City, Utah, and *bonus*… you might get me as a teacher!
So… I’ve been busy, as I’ve said 🙂 But back to Book 6 —
Title reveal will be coming in early August… then cover reveal in early September… then trailer sometime next year. So you’ll start to get clues soon enough. The first four chapters of Book 6 will be available in the paperback of Book 5: A CRYSTAL OF TIME, which will hit bookstores next April. More on that as we get closer.
Meanwhile, the movie is heating up. Final draft of the script comes in the next month or so… Then, if the studio is onboard with it, we’ll get to casting. So… closer and closer we get. As for the questions I’m sure you have:
Yes, I’m involved.
Yes, it follows Book 1.
Yes, it’s going to be very good.
All other questions I probably don’t have answers to. 🙂
Jun is hard at work on EverNever TV, plus a zillion other projects, so stay tuned for a special Douggie Giveaway episode of ENTV coming up soon, featuring me, Jun, Ramon, and JoAnn. Then we’ll have a month of special ENTV episodes from our EverNever TV intern, Jamie, who came to NYC and cooked up some fantastic episodes for you to enjoy over the summer.
A new contest will be up this month, plus special assignments, so keep tuned to the website, as always.
And by the end of the year, I’ll start giving you hints as to what’s to come for me after Book 6… eeeeeeee!
Hope you guys didn’t miss me too much, but if you did it’d be nice to hear in the comments because then I’ll feel loved, and being the true-life Sophie, well… we Sophies need all the love we can get 🙂
Happy 4th of July to the Americans!
